Standing on its rocky outcrop 35 kilometers from Vannes, Rochefort en Terre is a flowery town nestled in the middle of the woods, on which time seems to have no hold. Its houses, sometimes made of stones, sometimes with wood sides, testify of the history of the city and its inhabitants. To discover beautiful examples, go to the Place du Puits, where you will find many houses with different architectural styles: here, the corbelled buildings stand next to the granite, wooden or stone houses, creating a rich and original mix, giving the city of Rochefort-en-Terre a real postcard decor. Ah, it's so good to stroll in the paved streets with flowered facades of Rochefort-en-Terre: thus, go through the rue du Pélican, the rue du Porche and the rue Notre Dame in particular, streets full of classified houses, testifying to the prosperity of Rochefort-en-Terre during centuries. Rochefort-en-Terre is a major center for arts and crafts and is full of artisan stores and artists' studios. Florists, painters, jewelers, chocolate makers, galleries, confectioners and other restaurants will give you a good idea of the local know-how. The discovery tour of the local heritage will allow you to discover all the secrets of the town, from the Old Town to the wash house, passing by the Place des Halles, the Saint-Michel chapel, the turret and the Porte de l'Étang. Visiting the city in winter? Note that at Christmas, Rochefort en Terre is decked out in its finest finery, and its streets are illuminated with a thousand lights: in all, more than 30 kilometers of garlands of light decorate the stones of the town, giving it an enchanting fairy-tale look, to the delight of the young... and the old.
On the list of sites not to be missed is the collegiate church of Notre-Dame-de-la Tronchaye: both timeless and full of mystery, it has flamboyant colored stained glass windows that reflect the light in an absolutely sublime way! Dating from the 12th and 16th centuries, this granite monument built in a flamboyant gothic style attracts curious visitors thanks to its sloping interior columns, a consequence of its sloping and slippery terrain. But Rochefort en Terre has an even more astonishing building: its castle which, from the top of its promontory, watches over the valley of Gueuzon. Built and then demolished many times, only the doors and the ramparts remain of the original medieval fortress. If this castle cannot be visited, you can still admire it from its park which is worth a visit. Since 2015, the castle has been home to the "Naia Museum", also known as the "Imaginarium" of Rochefort en Terre, a unique museum where you can discover works inspired by the world of science fiction and fantasy. Atypical, playful, interactive, this unusual museum will definitely not leave you speechless.
In the south of the village is the Moulin Neuf pond. Popular with families and sports enthusiasts, it is ideal for water sports activities, from pedal boat rentals to paddle boat excursions, kayak rides and fishing parties with friends. With its pretty sandy beach, this pond is the scene of many idle sessions under the Breton sun. As for walks, a hiking trail will allow walkers and cyclists to stroll inland and around the lake, for walks in the shade of the trees. Finally, for excursions "in the green", nature lovers will take the direction of the Grées, these schist hills from which the extraordinary panoramas follow one another without being similar.
