In the Alpes-Maritimes, it is very difficult to escape the attractiveness of the coast. With its superb seaside resorts (Nice, Cannes, Menton...), the department invites you to enjoy the Mediterranean in many ways : relaxing in a small cove, swimming, sailing, diving, windsurfing, kite surfing, water skiing, excursions by boat... But many other activities await you and the sportsmen will be able to fill up energy by practicing golf, tennis, cycling, paragliding or even canyoning, speleology, climbing within the Vesúbia Moutain Park. In winter, the Alpes-Maritimes also offers a huge ski area with its 15 ski resorts, 230 ski slopes and 35 cross-country ski trails.
The Alpes-Maritimes are also a multitude of towns and villages impossible to circumvent. Begin by discovering Nice, its extraordinary natural environment, its old town with its typical alleys and its incomparable patrimony : Sainte-Réparate Cathedral, Saint-Nicolas Cathedral, Lascaris Palace... Then leave for Menton to appreciate its Baroque Saint-Michel Basilica, its fabulous gardens and the superb surrounding villages : Roquebrune-Cap Martin, Sainte-Agnès, Castellars... Also in Cannes, for its famous Croisette and its picturesque districts, in Saint-Paul de Vence, a wonderful historic village perched on a hill, Or in Grasse, the capital of flowers and perfumes, which seduces by its authentic character and the beautiful panoramas it offers on the shores of Cannes.
To discover all the natural resources of the Alpes-Maritimes, the department has developed many itineraries. Enjoy, for example, the beauty of the Alps, by taking the GR5 or Via Alpina on foot, and by bike or mountain bike, the route of the Grandes Alpes and the Chemins du Soleil. They will allow you to pace the national park of the Mercantour and the natural park of the Prealps of Azure. Follow the Routes of the Beautiful Escapes which will lead you from the Tinée Valley to that of the Roya-Bévéra, from Ventimiglia to Tende or on the Route des Bréa. Along the way, stop off in the Bistrots de Pays to taste the flavors of the south : fougasses, soup with pistou, salad niçoise, ratatouille, tomme du Champsaur, honey from Provence...
