Looking for a holiday in the sun? Direction Arona, a small town in the south of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands. Hiking, idleness, swimming, cultural discoveries: this is what awaits you if it is in Arona that you choose to settle down.
Between land and sea, Arona definitely has everything to please. The main destination of the island of Tenerife, the city consists of four distinct areas: the Playa de los Cristianos, the Playa de Las Galletas-Costa del Silencia, the Playa de los Americas and the Arona Rural. The latter is the most picturesque town in Arona: appreciated for its historic centre, the town is made up of white houses typical of Canary Islands architecture. The church of San Antonia Abad is one of the most beautiful examples of local traditional architecture: built in the 18th century, this church is the village's emblem. Do not hesitate to push his door, and to walk in his district to discover the seigneurial residences and the small wooded plots which dot the city. From Calle Duque de la Torre to Calle Dominguez Alfonso, via Plaza Cristo de la Salud, Calle de La Luna and Calle de El Calvario, you will discover everything that makes this unusual destination so charming. Don't miss the famous pistachio tree of the Atlas of Arona: located in the historic centre of the city, this century-old tree, nine metres high, provides shade and freshness on hot summer days. A key element of the local cultural heritage, it appears on Arona's coat of arms.
Arona has 15 kilometres of idyllic beaches, perfect for idleness breaks with family or friends. These beaches are located in the seaside districts of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas, which the municipality co-operates with its neighbour Adeja. The first district, Los Cristianos, is well known to lovers of tranquility: with its air of a small fishing village, it has preserved all its charm and will offer you beautiful bucolic walks along its quays. The Playa de las Americas area is much more touristy: with its many beaches, water sports and entertainment throughout the year, it conquers the hearts of many holidaymakers. Don't miss a walk in the early morning under the palm trees of the Francisco Andrade Fumero promenade, to enjoy the calm and magnificent colours of the sunrise on the aronero coast. Note to sportsmen: the place is perfect for jogging, rollerblading or cycling excursions. The Las Galletas and Costa del Sliencio walks are in addition to your holiday to-do-list, to discover all the splendours of the wild coast. On which beach should I put my towel? The one of Las Vistas, without hesitation! With its golden sand, azure water and avenues planted with umbrellas, this magnificent beach is the ideal location for quiet breaks. It is also very popular for the many activities offered in its nautical clubs: surfing, kayaking, sailing, wakeboarding... There will be something for everyone.
Finally, renowned for the calm of its coastline, Arona unveils wonderful seabeds to its visitors. It is therefore only natural that scuba diving is one of the most popular activities in the heart of the resort. Hiking enthusiasts can head towards Punta Rasca to discover the Arona lighthouse, or the magnificent Malpais de Rasca Nature Reserve: formed by volcanic lava flows, this colourful place is the ideal place for exotic excursions.
