Looking for a family holiday in the mountains ? Direction Praz-sur-Arly, a winter sports resort nestled in the heart of Haute-Savoie, at an altitude of 1035 metres. Praz-sur-Arly has the "Famille Plus" label, with its Nordic ski area directly linked to Megève and its large alpine ski area (including the Espace Diamant and the Val d'Arly ski area), and will delight ski enthusiasts. It is also the ideal place to vary the pleasures, so many activities are there, winter as summer.
Skiing, of course, is the most popular activity in Praz-sur-Arly : in all, you can enjoy 14 black pistes, 84 red pistes, 51 green pistes and 105 blue pistes spread over the Espace Diamant and Val d'Arly ski areas. 8 slalom stadiums and 5 snowparks will allow surfing and new sliding fans (like Yooner, speed-riding and wingjump) to indulge in their favourite activities. As for cross-country skiing, a 10 km loop runs through the sunny prairies of Praz-sur-Arly : marked out on a relatively flat terrain, it is suitable for beginners and family outings.
Children will have the play area "le château du Dragon de Tirecorde" (next to the toboggan runs), where tunnels, slides and various activities (sliding games, sculpture, shows, carpentry...) will give them the opportunity to discover the joys of snow. As far as skiing is concerned, two courses are reserved for them : they will be able to ski down the "Wahouland" and "Opoual" slopes, made of fun courses with small slopes and gentle bumps, ideal for an introduction to skiing in complete safety.
Holidays in the mountains would not be as beautiful without long walks in the snow, in the forests and the surrounding pastures. Praz-sur-Arly has two marked trails, totally dedicated to snowshoeing. The "loop of Cassioz and Thouvassières" (1h30) will allow you to visit the various hamlets of the resort, with notably a superb panorama on the Val D'Arly and its immaculate slopes. The "circuit des Evettes" criss-crosses the clearings and woods of the valley. This 2-hour walk (accessible to all from 10 years old) will be punctuated by many magnificent views over the valley and the snow-covered Aravis massif. These two routes will be perfect to discover the local flora and fauna that populates the mountains in winter. Young and old will have the opportunity to learn how to drive a dogteam or to enjoy an exceptional ride through the mountain pastures on board a dog sled. Another visit to make in family, that of the village and its hamlets, since a carriage, at the rhythm of the horses treading the snow.
Mont-Blanc, during which you will be able to admire sometimes the adret, sometimes the ubac of the massifs with infinite slopes and steep summits.
Summer, mountain biking, hiking, canoeing, tree climbing, fishing, tennis and golf will be on the program. Let yourself be tempted by a sunbath on the banks of the Arly and a few fathoms in the mountain lakes, in the middle of a magical natural setting.
Finally, in terms of gastronomy, Praz-sur-Arly is the French village with the most cheese appellations : Beaufort, chevrotin, abondance and reblochon as well as Emmental and Tomme de Savoie are real stars in the region. It will therefore be impossible for you to escape the traditional (but succulent) squeegees, tartiflettes and other gourmet Savoyard fondues.
