In the department of Corrèze, in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Meyssac is one of those small pearls that one would like to keep secret forever. About 20 kilometers south-east of Brive, this charming village is ideally located right next to the famous commune of Collonges-la-Rouge, further west. With this renowned neighbor, Meyssac shares many things, starting with the beauty of its heritage built in red sandstone, and with its land which is particularly suited to the art of pottery. A land of escape made up of forests, meadows and cultivated plains, Meyssac, although agriculturally oriented, is increasingly turned towards tourism, revealing an attractive dynamism and a restful setting that is ideal for family or romantic stays.

Rich in history, Meyssac was a Castrum in the Middle Ages before becoming a small fortified town under the Ancien Régime. Although its ramparts were razed in the 18th century to create a large circular boulevard around the heart of the town, you can still make out the lines of the ramparts today. Don't miss a walk on the Way of Saint James which crosses the town, and which will allow you to contemplate magnificent landscapes on the city and its valleys! But what obviously holds the visitor's attention in Meyssac, are its red sandstone stones. Among the sites not to be missed, the Saint-Vincent-et-Saint-Roch church will undoubtedly occupy a place of choice in your vacation to-do list: protected as a historical monument, this 12th century church, reworked in the 15th and 16th centuries, is worth a visit for its original Romanesque portal, as well as for its towers and other defensive elements, of which you will still be able to contemplate the arrows and loopholes today. The old 18th century market hall with its slate roof supported by large red sandstone columns, but also the town hall and many noble houses are worth a visit in the heart of the village! The Maison Verdès and the spiral staircase tower, but also a lot of Renaissance or gothic facades, the mullioned windows and the sculpted doors of the heart of Meyssac make the village a real postcard scenery ! If there is another must-see, it is certainly the Castle of Marsac : located in the eponymous hamlet attached to Meyssac, this 13th century castle is one of the must-see stops in the area for the beauty of its architecture !

In addition to the built heritage, there is also a rich natural heritage. Also, in order to allow you not to miss anything of the unique beauty of Meyssac, the city has equipped itself with hiking, horseback riding or cycling itineraries, perfect to discover the richness of the landscapes of the area, link between the Périgord, the Limousin and the Quercy. Tennis games, gourmet interludes, markets, annual festivities and a visit to Collonges-la-Rouge, the former medieval stronghold of the Counts of Turenne, will complete this stay in Corrèze.
