Perched at an altitude of 500 metres at the confluence of the Garbet, Salat, Estours and Ustou valleys, the commune of Seix is one of those villages of character of which only the mountains have the secret. A paradise for hikers and wilderness enthusiasts, the village of Seix has some beautiful residences to discover during strolls in the heart of the city. Its Baroque Saint-Etienne church, proudly enthroned in the village's central square, as well as its Château du Roy are among the buildings to visit during your visit to Seix. Located in the heart of the village, Château de Seix has been watching over the city since the 16th century: if the panorama from its heights is magnificent on sunny days, it is even more so in winter, when the snow covers the castle, Mirabat mountain and the valleys. At any time of the year, Seix is the ideal place for excursions into the countryside, which is why the municipality is crossed by many hiking routes. The "Boucle de Mède" and its panoramas on the high valley of Estours, but also the "Paloumère" and its itinerary crossing the crest of Paloumère, the Mirabat hike by Azas, to discover the architectural treasures and castles that border Seix and the Terrasses d'Esteiches itinerary are absolutely worth doing. The Estours valley also has interesting itineraries to discover the wild fauna and flora of this pretty corner of the Pyrenees, as well as the banks of the Salat, which will take you via its banks to small perched villages. In all, more than 500 kilometres of marked trails will be available to you during your stay in Seix, so don't forget to pack good walking shoes.
A land of mountain streams and rivers, the Haut Courserans is the perfect place to practice many whitewater activities: canoeing, kayaking, hydrospeed, canyoning, rafting, paragliding, fishing or climbing, there is something for everyone. But the Haut Courserans is also famous for making mountain bikers happy from generation to generation! The "Grand Eight" in particular is very popular with amateur and experienced cyclists who, every year, take this trail linking Seix to the summit of Bouirex. Not far from Seix, the Fonta forest will be the ideal place for "green" excursions in the shade of its thick vegetation: whether you are on foot, on horseback, on donkeyback or by mountain bike, the place is ideal for hiking and picnics with your family.
Finally, take advantage of your stay in Seix to taste the legendary flavours of Ariège cuisine. First of all, you will have to taste its delicatessen: black pudding, smoked bacon, sausage, hams and sausages dominate the local cuisine, for the delight of fine gourmets. Gizzard salad is a must, as are omelettes with mushrooms and morels, as well as foie gras, trout, aïgo bullido, duck and goose confits, slices, rouzole and crayfish. All this, accompanied by bambalus and bethmale (cheeses) and Minervois wines: a delight!
