In the department of Bouches-du-Rhône, separated from Vaucluse by the winding meanders of the Durance river, Noves is located in the heart of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, right next to Avignon-Provence airport. Ah, Noves... Culture and nature getaway, Noves is full of fabulous sites to discover. South-east of Avignon, and 14 kilometres from the heart of the famous City of the Popes, Noves sees its origins dating back to ancient times, since the first human occupation of the town would date back to the 5th century BC, when the hill of Puech was occupied by the Celto-Ligurian tribe of the Cavares. Widely developed from the 10th century and then during the 14th century at the instigation of the Popes of Avignon, the town has a large number of absolutely splendid monuments from this period that you can discover at your leisure during your stay. To see ? The Saint-Baudile church built in a pure Provençal Romanesque style and its carillon with 5 bells, the Bishops' Palace, the Notre-Dame chapel inside the city, or the castle... Or at least, the remains of the latter. Destroyed in 1611, all that remains of its building is its strategic location overlooking the village, as well as an 18-metre deep well. Stroll along the watchtower, the last remnant of the first rampart that surrounded the village during the 10th century, through the Porte d'Agel, the Place Belle Laure to see the Hôtel de Canilhac and the 17th century Hôtel Gaultier. Pass through the heart of the village to see its old streets typical of the Middle Ages, the rue du Château d'Eau, the Porte des Moulins which was part of the 12th century walls, the Porte de la Courrège, before discovering old 17th century residences, the Hôtel de Bournissac, the Hôtel d'Anselme, the Porte des Eaux, the old hospital, the Porte d'Aurose all to the north of the old Noves, to finally discover other vestiges of the old ramparts on the side of the Resistance roundabout.

After having taken the time to survey the historic heart of Noves, take a break from the hustle and bustle and discover the valleys that surround the town. From churches to chapels, from crosses to oratories, on the side of the Rougadou forest massif, along the Durance, through the large and small Anguillon, on foot, on horseback or by bike, there are many ideas for walks in the region. The botanical path will be perfect for children, when "Noves au fil de l'eau" will give sporty hikers beautiful panoramas of the village. A festive village marked by local traditions, Noves sees its year punctuated by numerous festivals and cultural events which you may be able to attend, such as manade competitions, abrivados, bull races, giant aïolis tastings and folklore parades to plunge you into the heart of the country's traditions. Finally, the citadel of Les Baux-de-Provence, the castle of Tarascon, the perched villages of the Luberon, the market of Cavaillon, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Avignon the cultural and gourmet will complete your discovery of Noves and its surroundings!
