In the heart of the Pays d'Iroise, in a natural region known for its splendid panoramas, Lanildut is no exception to the rule. The first seaweed port in Europe, this authentic Breton village offers you a dive into its traditions, for a trip you will remember for a long time!

Ah, Brittany... If it is so appreciated by holidaymakers, it is above all for the richness of its natural heritage. Located in the department of Finistère, a few steps from Brest and facing the marvellous island of Ouessant, the commune of Lanildut is one of those nuggets that one would like to keep just for oneself. Magistrously spread out along the Aber Ildut, one of the three Breton Abers, Lanildut plunges you in an instant into the characteristic atmosphere of Brittany. Also, to soak up the atmosphere, take the time to stroll along its old streets studded with magnificent granite houses; the houses of the barque masters dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, the houses of the merchant captains as well as the manor houses such as the Manoir de Rumorvan (from the 17th century) in the eponymous district are among the most majestic buildings in the village, displaying old granite stones and English half-moon chimneys which give Lanildut a crazy charm. Still on the stone side, you can't miss the church of Saint-Ildut dating from 1786, but also the chapels, the crosses from the Middle Ages, an old wash house from the 19th century or 11 old seaweed ovens.

After discovering the heart of the village, head towards the port of Lanildut: the first seaweed port in Europe, it lulls visitors with its ceaseless ballet of boats at the time of unloading the seaweed. For a long time a source of income for many inhabitants of the town, seaweed is still the star of Lanildut! On the port, we recommend you to push the door of the House of Seaweed, which presents from June to September exhibitions on the place of seaweed in the living world, but also on the history of the seaweed growers and their ancestral knowledge.

In order not to miss anything of your stay, the commune of Lanildut is equipped with perfect hiking trails to discover the village, but also the fauna and flora of its surroundings. From the Crapaud and Sphinx Rocks, along the GR34 which criss-crosses the whole Breton coast, via the "Circuit des Lavandières" (12 kilometres), or thanks to 3 geocatching circuits and 12 mountain bike circuits from 14 to 66 kilometres, you can discover Lanildut, its marvellous coastline and the Pays d'Iroise as you wish. A must do also: discover the granite quarries of Kerglonou! Known throughout the world, this granite was used to build the quays of London, Brest, Le Havre, or the base of the Luxor obelisk in Paris... A real local pride!

Finally, if you prefer water activities to walking, you will be well served in Lanildut! Our advice? Try the adventure of a kayak trip on the Aber Ildut, or opt for a cruise towards Ouessant or Molène! Note also that from the Crapaud beach, you can swim, fish, practice a whole range of water sports such as sailing or diving... What a great way to escape during your Breton holidays!
