Ah, Thonon-les-Bains... Only those who one day had the chance to set foot there can know how much Thonon is a city to fall in love with. Cultural as you wish, exotic, dynamic and relaxing, this renowned spa resort can satisfy all your desires between the lake and the mountains, all year round.

On the shores of the wonderful Lake Geneva, Thonon-les-Bains is the capital of the Chablais Savoyard, in the department of Haute-Savoie of which it is one of the sub-prefectures. From the south shore of the lake, this dynamic town is full of places to see, restaurants to eat, places to rest, and magnificent sites to contemplate. Backed by the Alpine mountains, just a few steps from Switzerland, Thonon-les-Bains boasts an old town full of history. To begin your visit, there is nothing like a little jump to the heart of the city, crossed by the Gran Rue. During your walk, you will discover a number of religious buildings, such as the Saint-Hippolyte church, the oldest church in the town, built in the regional baroque style during the 12th century. The chapel of the former Visitation convent, the chapel of Saint-Bon built against an old medieval rampart from the 13th century, or the church of Notre-Dame du Léman in the Vongy district, known for its gigantic mosaic, are added to the visit of the superb Saint-François-de-Sales basilica, which is worth a visit for the astonishing beauty of its mural paintings. But Thonon-les-Bains is also the land of castles! Many castles have been built in the region, such as the splendid Château de Sonnaz, built in place of an old medieval castle, or the Château de Montjoux built in 1930. But if there is one that is inseparable from local history, it is the Château de Ripaille: planted in the heart of a 120-hectare estate on the edge of the lake, this former convent boasts a 15th-century castle with four towers, an enchanting wooded area and vineyards that give it a unique character. A must-see, it is worth a visit for its bucolic character and its history. The port district of Les Rives is worth a visit for its medieval houses, while a short ride on the funicular (which links the lower town to the upper town) will delight young and old alike.

Thonon-les-Bains is a world-renowned spa town, with its first spa establishment built at the end of the 19th century, right next to a park and a casino. The new building, built in 1954, now offers therapeutic cures with targeted actions, but also massages, treatments, spa sessions, for a wellness and relaxation break in the heart of the city. As for the play area, it will delight even the youngest with its baths!

Thonon-les-Bains is also a lake, a lake of breathtaking beauty that is full of activities to do, alone, as a couple, with family or friends. In the area of the lake, you will find a number of signposted routes perfect for hiking or mountain biking towards the mountains, or more quietly around the lake which has 180 kilometres of developed banks. Lovers of sunbathing can choose from the public beaches around the lake, while fans of water sports can opt for sessions combining sailing, paddle, fishing, rafting, hydrospeed, canyoning, kayaking, diving, water-skiing, rowing, paddle, swimming... and even boat trips on the lake to discover the neighbouring towns! A holiday that the whole family is sure to have fond memories of!
