Chamrousse is not a destination like any other. It extends at the end of the massif of Belledonne in the department of Isère, about thirty kilometers from Grenoble.
The ski resort is divided into three distinct zones : Chamrousse 1650 (Recoin), Chamrousse 1700 (the domain of Arselle) and Chamrousse 1750 (Roche Béranger). These different parts are connected together by ski runs. A free shuttle also allows you to travel from one end to the other the village built in the middle of the forest. A restructuring project is underway. Called "Chamrousse 2030", this urban development project aims to develop the capacities of reception while reinforcing the balance between human constructions and nature.
Regarding the origin of the name "Chamrousse", several theses are opposed. For some, it would be inherited from a precellitic dialect meaning "high plateau bare and stony". For others, "Chamrousse" would come from the reddish gleams that the setting sun projects over the vast snowy expanses and the plateaux covered with rocks with mineral reflections. This second interpretation, much more poetic, seems to correspond more to the soul that seems to inhabit the place. Chamrousse invites indeed to the escape and its magnificent landscapes have inspired many local artists.
Several natural environments coexist in the vicinity of Chamrousse. The rocky cliffs that bristle the mountain ranges and summits are tempered by the round and soothing shapes of the hills. The rough and arid aspect of the trails is balanced by the dense and verdant appearance of the acid bogs characteristic of the Belledonne range. Seen from the sky, these extraordinary landscapes are constellated with lakes of various origins. First, there are polar lakes located at high altitudes. The mineral matter in suspension gives a milky tint to the surface of the waters. Then there are the cold lakes and the warmer green lakes. All constitute an accumulation of natural mirrors reflecting the inestimable beauty of the mountain of Belledonne.

Résidence l'écrin des Neiges is ideally located. Apartment with a breathtaking view of the mountains, a real treat! Most activities and hikes are within easy reach, with shuttles at the foot of the lifts. A wonderful discovery that delighted the whole family.

The restaurant le chalet is very family oriented and the food is copious. The Burger cheese is succulent. We were given a very warm welcome and the price-quality ratio is correct.

The restaurants in Chamrousse were mediocre, but after a long walk, hunger helps...you put up with it, then you dine in your apartment.

Very good reception from the shopkeepers in this station. Numerous restaurants for all tastes, efficient equipment rental services, an excellent time under the sun at the restaurant at the top of the cable car with a magnificent view. Free shuttle service between stations and the Nordic park very convenient. Interesting snowshoe walk and possibility of 20 min with sled dogs (but a little expensive at 90 €).

Pizzeria "Le 76 Avenue" in Chamrousse 1650: very copious and excellent pizzas, very good value for money. Very beautiful view of Lake Achard, very beautiful hike in the whole area. Tourist office not very competent, children's entertainment without interest with no prizes (Haribo race), unable to give information on hikes.

Cross mountain bike to do. Restaurants "Au péché mignon" and "Le Boucanier" at the top, correct prices... it's worth it. Hiking at Lake Achard and Lake Robert: magnificent. Prefer Casino stores to Sherpa stores. Bakery at the top (but limited hours).
