The Barcarès is a concentrate of Catalan culture. This ancient fishing village located in the Pyrenees-Orientales is gradually reborn from its ashes thanks to the action of local elected officials who strongly encourage the renovation of the port. The challenge now seems to be a success since the old pool is one of the busiest places in the city. During the summer there are festive and cultural events : traditional dance classes (the Sardana), Catalan courses, boat model exhibitions and sales, photo exhibitions...
With the port , Markets and the beach are the other two lungs of the city. We can notably discover a curiosity that does not surprise tourists passing. The Lydia, an ocean liner sanded on the beach, tears the azure sky with its imposing silhouette. Not far away is the "longest open-air museum". This original and unique attraction, named Allée des Arts, owes its existence to the illustrious British photographer John Craven. It is a long alley that runs along the seafront and houses multiple sculptures with exuberant shapes and colorful colors. An exceptional setting that magnificently enhances the so-called "liner of the sands".
Nearby is the island of La Coudalère connected to the village. In the distance, you can also see the pond and its pine forest. A multitude of wild birds nest close to the generously sized pond of Salses-Leucate. And with good reason: with an area of 5400 ha, the site stands out as the second largest lagoon in Languedoc-Roussillon. The tour ends with the gray Dune, a preserved ecosystem where we still find characteristic vegetal species such as the carnation of Catalonia or the famous grape of sea.

Restaurant "Le Tertre" (Place du Tertre): book during the day to be sure to eat there. Take the ride in a "city coco", these are small electric motorcycles on a guided tour by the rental company that lasts three hours with tapas at the key.

Many restaurants. Beautiful beaches between Port Leucate and Port Barcarés, to be enjoyed by bike... Walks also on foot.... Bicycle and pedestrian paths along the beaches.
