Merged with Valezan, Mâcot-la-Plagne and La Côte-d'Aime in 2016 to become the famous commune of La Plagne Tarentaise, Bellentre takes its place in the heart of Savoie, on the paths of the GR5. Dominated by the Pointe de Combe Bénite, the Grand Mont, the Roc de la Charbonnière, the Pointe de Comborsier or the Mont-Pourri, Bellentre is located at the entrance of the Tignes-Champagny Nature Reserve. Situated between the two banks of the Isère river, it has a total of thirteen hamlets including Le Gothard, Bonconseil, Le Plan des Forches, Les Coches, Montchavin and Le Grand Bochet. Rich of a strong religious and baroque heritage inherited from its history (the commune sheltered a priory in the 11th century) and of the noble families who had resided within its walls, the village of Bellentre is well worth a small visit. The remains of the Du Verger castle are particularly worth seeing, as are the two churches of the commune and the numerous chapels planted here and there in its hamlets.
In contrast to its palpable traditional charm, Bellentre's other trait of character is its modern, dynamic side, which is its major asset and attracts many visitors every year. Linked to the immense La Plagne - Paradiski ski area, Bellentre is particularly popular with families who come here to pack their bags before heading down the 225 kilometres of runs in the La Plagne ski area, spread out between 1250 and 3250 metres, and comprising 9 green runs and 74 blue runs on the alpine side, 34 red runs and 19 black runs... Unless you prefer to opt for the 425 kilometres of magnificent runs spread out between 1200 and 3250 metres above sea level in the Paradiski area, offering 12 green runs, 137 blue runs, 79 red runs and 36 black runs for the most sporty skiers. But if this domain, which bears its name extraordinarily well, is a real little ski paradise, it is because it offers its visitors an immense range of activities for all desires, winter and summer. In the winter period, sledging, bobsleigh, skeleton, ice skating, snowshoe hiking (the "La Pierra for young and old" trail is highly recommended for families), ice climbing, biathlon, ski joëring, dog sledding, but also paragliding for adrenaline fans, Snowmobile, snowboard, flying over the resort in tandem or helicopter, snakegliss (a fun activity, ideal to do with the whole family), airboard, yooner and cross-country skiing will satisfy all your desires, all in a magnificent white setting offering exceptional panoramas of the Mont-Blanc in the distance.
On sunny days, the mountain becomes a huge open-air playground for sportsmen and lovers of the great outdoors. Between rivers, forests, glaciers, mountain lakes and green valleys, the hike will allow you to discover all the most beautiful faces of Bellentre and its neighbouring resorts. Mountain biking, trail, white water sports such as canoeing, kayaking, hydrospeed and rafting at the Gorges de Centron, accrobranche, via ferrata, hang gliding, climbing or wellness breaks in a spa will allow you to spend unforgettable holidays in the heart of the mountains of Savoie.
