For 50 years, La Plagne is the ultimate model of an integrated station in the mountains. Located on the valley of the Tarentaise in Savoy, it combines services, shops and activities necessary for tourists on an area of eleven resort-villages between which one circulates easily. Aime la Plagne, Montchavin, Champagny-en-Vanoise, Plagne Bellecôte... names that sound familiar to winter sports enthusiasts.
The station was built at the initiative of the Mayor of Aime in 1961 when it found that the valley was losing more and more inhabitants. This ambitious project was aimed at reviving the activity by building tourist structures on the territory. Fruit of the brilliant architect Michel Bezançon, Plagne Center is the first resort of the ski area to be born in December 1961 with only four ski runs. Today, La Plagne has spread widely on the surrounding communes as well as previously virgin territories. Since 2003, with the resort of Les Arcs, it forms the famous Paradiski ski area. Its 425 kilometers of trails are connected thanks to the Vanoise Express, a unique giant cable car service in the world. La Plagne itself has no less than 200 kilometers of marked trails as well as a very large off-piste area. Its station-villages extend from 1250 to 3250 meters above sea level, promising an exceptional snow coverage throughout the season.
La Plagne is also the best place to try out other more unusual winter sports. At the 1992 Olympic Winter Games in Albertville, the field hosted the bobsleigh and luge events. Since then, Olympic athletes are still training on this incomparable track. On its 19 stunning bends, come to learn bobsleigh, sledge or skeleton. These three extreme sports will guarantee an instant adrenaline rush : speed between 80 and 120 km / h depending on the machine, an experience you can not forget ! La Plagne is also famous for the practice of telemark. This discipline coming from the Far North consists in particular of descending the slopes with a free heel, that is to say not attached to the ski, which makes it possible to make graceful turns and gives an original sensation of imbalance. Confirmed skiers will particularly appreciate this sport that will take them out of their comfort zone.
On the Plagne's resorts, there are plenty of unique opportunities. Nothing is too incredible for these slopes Savoyardes ! Come and experience new sensations of slipping with the snowbike, a mountain bike whose wheels have been replaced by skis, or the airboard, an inflatable sled on which one lies on the belly. Thrills guaranteed ! For those who wish to observe the magnificent landscapes of the Vanoise massif, you have two options : hiking or paragliding ! Two different ways of contemplating an incomparable panorama. And if after all these efforts you feel the need to recharge your batteries, go to the Wellness Center of Montchavin. "L'Oûta" (store located in Belle Plagne) is a very good brand of artisanal products and you can buy minute sandwiches there! (practical when you decide at the last minute to go hiking)

There is a very good bakery/pastry shop with good breads and cakes. We appreciated the visit of a fruit and vegetable producer who allowed us to enjoy good products at a reasonable price because the Sherpa is a little expensive but very good.

We had dinner one evening at La Plagne Centre in the restaurant "Pépé et Cie": very good welcome and very good meal, only the music is a little loud. We have booked pizzas on Friday evening at Plagne Bellecôte in the restaurant "I Tifosi": ready on time, hot, well cooked, and super good!

Beautiful resort when you ski... However, this year it lacks infrastructure: beginner lift mats close between noon and 2 so when you take lessons and they stop at 12.30pm, you have to go up on foot... Few restaurants offer food delivery and few shops are open... we can quickly be led to turn in circles.
