Near the Spanish border, south-east of Perpignan, Banyuls-sur-Mer invites you into a wonderful natural setting. Famous for its refined wines, it will also surprise you with its beautiful coastline, its wild hinterland and its rich Catalan heritage.
Banyuls-sur-Mer owes its name to the Latin "Balneolis" ("lagoon" in French) and, while discovering the places, it is not difficult to understand why. In the heart of the Vermeille coast, this resort marvels by the diversity of its coastline. If you dream of long hours of idleness, go to a small wild creek. Thanks to their clear waters, they are also true paradises for diving. If you wish more animation, settle down on the big central beach or that of Elmes. On their fine sand, you can enjoy beach volleyball, beach tennis, sandball... but you can also swim, kayak, sail...
Ideal for lovers of marine pleasures, Banyuls-sur-Mer is also a high-place for strolls. This is evidenced by the Maison de la Randonnée which offers guided outings but also a lot of information on the surrounding trails. There again you will have the choice : take the coastal path that takes you to the Spanish border, the famous GR 10 that connects the Atlantic and Mediterranean crossing the Pyrenees, or one of the many other marked routes. On horseback or mountain bike, many possibilities are also available to you. On the way, discover all the beauty and richness of the hinterland : its vineyards, its signal towers dating from the 13th century, the Notre-Dame de la Salette chapel...
During your stay in Banyuls-sur-Mer, also take the time to discover the village's heritage : the 12th century Romanesque church of the Rectorie, the works of Aristide Maillol, the local child, scattered throughout the resort, and the museum that gathers other creations by the artist. Within the Biodiversarium, visit the oldest aquarium on the Mediterranean coast and the Mas de la Serre garden, a 3 hectare park with over 300 local plant species. In the evening, sit on the terrace of a good restaurant and enjoy all the flavours of Catalan cuisine : cod brandade, anchovies from Collioure, boles of picolat, Catalan cream cakes...

Of course: Collioure, Port Vendres. In Banyuls, the Paulille cove is to be visited as well as the aquarium. We enjoyed the restaurant "Le Jardin de Saint Sébastien" in Banyuls.

Beautiful walks to do. Collioure is a must see. Visits not to be missed (the Baillaury olive grove, the Banyuls tasting sessions...), beaches where it's good to laze around (the Paulliles site).

If you like to walk: it's ideal. The diving in Cerbère is wonderful and above all a nice team and without forgetting the paddle/canoe. Banyuls is both the city and the countryside for nature lovers.

Very pleasant region; Banyuls is very well served by buses for regular trips (Côte Vermeille - Perpignan) or excursions (Spain - Barcelona - Canigou), little yellow train among others to take absolutely.

Recommended: "Rédéris", a diving club next to the fair, "Le Café des Platanes" and its glacier on the square and the restaurant "Del Patio" in the pedestrian street.

So, go and discover the vineyards of the Cru Banyuls and Collioure, and meet the wine growers! On the program? Cooking competition, musical animations, cellar visits, taste workshop, exhibitions, cinema, winegrower's meal, tastings... Enough to delight the taste buds of the whole family! Free entrance.

From July 7 to 10, it's the Fiesta Catalana in Banyuls-sur-Mer! A traditional festival mixing shows, traditions and Catalan folklore, sardanas, parades of giants and other festive strolls, this great festival will plunge you into the heart of Catalan history and traditions. On Sunday, July 10th, there will be a big Catalan market and a fireworks show from 10 pm! Free of charge.
