Only 40 kilometres from Barcelona, Sitges is an elegant seaside resort and very popular with holidaymakers. With no less than 17 fine sandy beaches overlooking the Mediterranean, Sitges is a picturesque, dynamic, refined, festive and green destination, which has all the assets for holidays at the rhythm of the sun and the sea.
Between the Mediterranean and the mountains of the Garaf massif, Sitges can boast 300 days of sun a year. Whether you choose to come to Sitges with family or friends, you are sure to find something to spend a pleasant holiday in the Spanish sun. A city of history and culture, Sitges is worth a visit in its pretty lanes. So that visitors can not miss a crumb, the city is criss-crossed by thematic roads : the "American Route" first of all, you will discover colonial-style houses built at the very end of the nineteenth century. The "Old Town Road" will take you along the old wall of Sitges, through the shady alleys of the old fishermen's houses, at the foot of its whitewashed church, and you will discover during this walk the different museums of the city. The "Route des maisons singulières" is also to be done : you will discover most of the buildings that make the history and singularity of Sitges in terms of architecture, from its neoclassical style houses to its modernist and Art Nouveau buildings, passing through Gothic, ancient and medieval buildings along the beach of San Sebastian. To finish the discovery of Sitges, the "Route de Terramar" through the modernist gardens and the "Route de la Malvoisie" are not to be missed.
A fantastic destination for family holidays, Sitges and its long golden beaches bathed in the calm, warm waters of the Mediterranean are children's favourite playground. Near the city centre, most of them are located on the waterfront promenade, where young and old can cycle, stroll or rollerblade. The beaches ("platja" in Catalan) of Sitges are all different from each other, depending on whether they are close to the city centre or further away : intimate, popular, large, naturist or wild, there will be something for everyone. The "Platja Sant Sebastia" is one of the largest in the seaside resort : located to the east of the church of Sitges, it is adored by families and very popular during the summer. Next door, the "Platja de la Fragata" is very popular with young people because of its beach volleyball courts and its small pedal boats to rent. Sitges is known as a tolerant and open "gay-friendly" destination, so it is only natural that one of its beaches has become the LGBT community's favourite over time : the "Platja de la Bassa Rodona". Very busy, you can rent pedal boats, parasols and kayaks for sea excursions. There are also several nudist beaches along the sitgetà coast, such as Cala Morisca, Platja Desenrocada and Platja de l'Home Mort. The "Platja de les Anquines" is the most isolated beach in Sitges to the west of the municipality and is ideal for long relaxing sessions far from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. As for water sports, the coastline of the town offers a wide range of activities for young and old : jet-skiing, motor boat hire, parachuting, sailing from the Port d'Aiguadolç, kite-surfing, windsurfing and water skiing. If you are not thrilled by water sports, you can still (from June to September) practice a multitude of activities in front of the sea, from aerobics to tai chi, aquagym, yoga and bike rides.
Hiking is also one of the assets of the seaside resort which offers a wide choice of routes through its hinterland. Accessible on foot, by car or by bicycle, the Garraf Park is Sitges' green lung. Spreading over more than 12 000 hectares, this park composed of caves, chasms, typically Mediterranean vegetation and limestone make it an extraordinary place, adored by locals to stroll during the weekend.
