Sun, fine sand, dream beaches and activities for the whole family (and all budgets!): welcome to Maspalomas, in the Canary Islands!
In the south of the island of Gran Canaria, Maspalomas impresses by the beauty and immensity of its sand dunes which border the beaches of the seaside resort for several kilometres. Unique in the Canary Islands, this vast area protected as a Special Nature Reserve is breathtaking. Spread over more than 400 hectares, this site has a magnificent beach, huge dune fields, a salt lake and palm trees, a green oasis in the heart of a desert mainly made up of golden sand. To discover this amazing area as well as possible, nothing beats taking the hiking trails from the seaside resort: route number 3 is particularly recommended, crossing the dunes to finish your journey on the edge of the long, very long sunny beach of Maspalomas. For a beautiful view of the dunes without taking the risk of hiking, head for the Riu Palace Hotel lookout, near Playa del Inglés: you can enjoy an unobstructed view of both the dunes and the turquoise sea that borders Maspalomas. As for natural heritage, Maspalomas will impress you with the richness and variety of its landscapes. To make sure you don't miss out on the spectacle of nature in this seaside resort, we particularly recommend visiting the Maspalomas Palm grove, as well as the Charca de Maspalomas, a magnificent wetland area rich in protected fauna and abundant flora. And if it is an essential site in Maspalomas, it is obviously its lighthouse: it stands to the south of its coast and is a witness to the region's tourist development. From its 55 metres high, this lighthouse, which is still in operation, offers a breathtaking panorama from the Pointe de Castillete to the Pointe d'Arinaga from its cabin.
After these visits, how about a little... shopping? On Galdar Avenue or in the El Tablero shopping centre, you will find many shops, bazaars and other cafés, perfect for a break after shopping. Not really window-shoppers? To the beaches of the seaside resort! Long and caressed by a blazing sun, the beaches of Maspalomas are bordered by the clear and refreshing waters of the Atlantic Ocean, which merge with the intense blue of the sky. Ideal for family swimming days, quiet walks, beach volleyball games or idleness breaks on a hammock or under a parasol, these beaches are also very popular with water sports enthusiasts. Whether you are a beginner or a snowboarder, Maspalomas has a wide choice to offer you: surfing, scuba diving, boat rental, sea excursions to observe dolphins and whales, jet-skiing, flyboarding, snorkeling, paddle rides, kitesurfing, parasailing... Everything so that adults and children alike can spend an unforgettable holiday on the beaches of Maspalomas !
