It is in the heart of the Queyras Regional Nature Park, at the gateway to the nature reserve of the upper Guil valley, in the Hautes-Alpes department, that the Abriès village resort is located. Ancient medieval city, Abriès is today a family ski resort with typical mountain architecture, nestled in the heart of a preserved and enchanting environment.
Perched at an altitude of 1550 metres, Abriès is coiled at the confluence of the Bouchel and the Guil, not far from two valleys leading to Italy. Culminating at 2450 meters, this resort has 21 kilometers of ski slopes and numerous infrastructures for family stays. Small and friendly, Abriès is appreciated for its human side, its maximum sunshine and its breathtaking landscapes. It will certainly delight lovers of "nature" skiing, fond of tranquility far from the crowded slopes of ultra modern and concrete areas. Pays des "Retours d'Est" (a meteorological phenomenon which allows, when the snow falls abundantly on the Italian side of the border, to benefit from a strong snow cover also on the French side), its slopes overhanging the valley make the happiness of freeriders and fans of thick powder. Are you more of an alpine or cross-country skier ? Snowshoeing or sledging ? Sled dogs, biathlon or ice rink ? No need to choose in Abriès, the resort has all the equipment necessary for the practice of the most popular sliding sports. A total of 4 blue, 1 green, 1 black and 9 red runs await alpine ski fans and over 40 kilometres of cross-country ski trails will delight Nordic skiers. Near Abriès, the resorts of Aiguilles and Ristolas have also created play areas for young and old, so that beginners and experienced skiers can safely enjoy skiing at their own pace. At Aiguilles, you can have fun on a toboggan run and on a snowboard run equipped with a huge "Air Bag" ready to cushion the falls of freestyle enthusiasts. The second play area, Ristolas, will be perfect for beginners thanks to its secure toboggan runs, its mechanical mat, its "baby" ski lift, perfect for an introduction to mountain sports.
Hikers can have a field day on the various routes that cross Abriès and its valleys. The "Pierres Écrites" circuit in particular is one of the most popular loops in the area, ideal for discovering the city. During this walk, you will be able to observe stones several hundred years old, each one having its own history: quotations, verses of the Gospel, sentences in old French, names and numbers are thus engraved forever in the stones of the village. In spring and summer from Abriès, many walks are possible : jump into your hiking boots towards the summit of Bric Bouchet (2298 meters) or the Saint-Martin pass (2657 meters) to enjoy magnificent views over the passes, Mount Viso, valleys and alpine pastures that surround the resort. Between 2583 and 2805 meters, the lakes of altitude of Malrif are to see absolutely. At sunrise, to capture an unforgettable panorama, go to the Chalantiès lake, at the bottom of the Bouchet valley, to observe the sky and the lake tinting with one and the same color, in a breathtaking natural setting. The place is also ideal for a small picnic with the family ! If you are lucky, you may come across wild animals : ibex, chamois, deer, roe deer, wolves, foxes and marmot live together in harmony in the wild valleys of Abriès.
Finally, by bike, the routes through Abriès and its surrounding villages give pride of place to the winding paths through the mountain passes. We recommend climbing the summit of the Col de l'Izoard, a magnificent balcony overlooking the Massif des Écrins and the Briançonnais. Confirmed cyclists can also climb the Agnel pass from where you can contemplate Mount Viso and the splendid Italian valleys, as well as the ascent of Valpreveyre (from Abriès), an ideal itinerary to visit the surroundings of the resort while skirting the torrent du Bouchet.
