Looking for a cultural vacation? An appointment with history, history with a capital H? Go to the Dordogne ! And more precisely, the village of Aubas! Between castles, caves and rivers, this little nugget as beautiful as it is fascinating invites you for a break from time.

In the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, Aubas is located on the banks of the Vézère river, a few miles from Montignac. About sixty kilometers from Périgueux, in the heart of the natural region of the Périgord Noir, Aubas sees its origins go back far, far away, to prehistoric times! But it is above all in the XIIth century, thanks to the construction of its church, that the village develops, then, this agricultural village turned to tourism thanks to its ideal location, its fascinating landscapes and its fascinating history. Whether you walk or cycle, you will be captivated by the beauty of its scenery, worthy of the most beautiful postcards! As for the built heritage, the Château de Sauveboeuf is a must-see: open to the public, this 17th century building was built in the same style as the Palais du Luxembourg in Paris, with a vast main building framed by pavilions with roofs decorated with dormer windows. Its solid framework, its staircases of honor and its gallery make it a must for history and architecture lovers! But while walking on the territory of Aubas, you can also discover the Castle of Brégedelle of the XVIth century, as well as the manor of Féletz of the XIIIth century, also counting among the most outstanding buildings of Aubas. As far as religious heritage is concerned, it is impossible to visit Aubas without mentioning the 12th century church of Saint-Cyr and Saint-Juliette, easily identifiable by its Gothic portal and its western facade redesigned in the 19th century. In the heart of the village, on the Vézère river, you can discover an old lock, transformed into a mill and then into an electric dam, but also beautiful narrow streets and a central square where a majestic hundred-year-old plane tree is enthroned, the starting point for many walks through Aubas and its surroundings.

Through the forest, along the river, on the paths of the Boucle des Châteaux... Our recommendation?
