A paradise for cross-country skiers and family snow holidays, Bessans is one of the most famous Nordic ski areas in the Alps. Located in the department of Savoie, and more precisely in the Haute-Maurienne Valley, Bessans has 133 kilometres of trails dedicated to cross-country skiing but also 3 kilometres of downhill ski trails, and 15 kilometres of groomed pedestrian trails, to the delight of winter sports lovers.
Jewel of Haute-Maurienne, Bessans is a pretty village, built around its church and its many baroque style chapels. Its small wooden chalets with traditional architecture give it an authentic and friendly atmosphere. In this resort, sculpture is a tradition dating back more than 4 centuries : during your walks in town, you will surely come across statues, crosses, cattails and the famous devil, emblem of Bessans since 1857.
Its sumptuous glaciers, its high plateau, its immaculate white valleys, and its peaks that can reach up to 3000 metres in altitude make it a favourite place for mountain lovers. Throughout the year, many activities are proposed within this sports resort: summer, hikes, walks, fishing, glacier races, mountain biking, but also swimming are on the program. When winter comes to Bessans and the mountain wears its white coat, snowshoe sports, ski joering on horseback, cross-country skiing, Nordic walking, sledging, diving, dog sledding, ice climbing or even downhill skiing for children and beginners are at the rendezvous. As a family resort, Bessans offers a wide range of activities for children. Two toboggan runs are entirely dedicated to them, one at the foot of the ski lifts and the second at the start of the cross-country ski runs. They can also unwind on the natural ice rink, in the heart of the village, after tasting a good hot chocolate. As for sports, the resort also has a biathlon stadium, where French and foreign national teams train throughout the year: during this stay, you can also learn this discipline, via courses or courses during which you will learn rifle shooting and skating techniques. Bessans even has a 21.3 kilometre marathon route, perfect to compete against seasoned athletes !
Through woods and snow-covered alpine pastures, 15 kilometres of marked and secured paths will be at your disposal to allow you to discover the charms of the Bessannaise valley. Take advantage of a snowshoe walk to explore the Vanoise National Park, the Avérole valley or the Ribon valley : multiple excursions are organised from Bessans, in groups, in pairs or with a guide. You will discover the local fauna and flora, following in the footsteps of chamois, eagles and ibexes that inhabit the Savoy mountains.
After sport : comfort ! Even better : a relaxation session... To do so, you can enjoy the sauna and wellness area of the Hotel de La Vanoise as well as the massage center "Nira" : relaxation and letting go will be on the program. Finally, before an evening in the warmth or on the slopes for a torchlight descent, discover the richness of the local flavours : if the essential tartiflettes, fondues and raclettes will obviously be at the rendezvous of all the good tables, do not miss to taste the agnelos (big ravioli), the stuffed Bessanais and the (very) gourmet reblochonnade.

We appreciated the warm welcome in all the shops. Very good addresses: the restaurants "Chalet de Séraphin" and "La Bocona". Excellent walks around and above Bessans, there is something for all levels....
