A papal enclave perched in the heart of the Petit Luberon, Bonnieux never ceases to amaze and charm visitors passing through its old stones. Its history, Bonnieux tells you through its tiered streets: a village on a cliffside, it consists of small streets sometimes shady, sometimes largely sunny, tiered overlooking the valley of the Luberon and the valley of Lourmain. With its old houses crowned with red terracotta tiles and its dense vegetation, Bonnieux has everything of the perfect small village of Provence. An ancient fortified village, inhabited since the Neolithic period as evidenced by the remains of Gallo-Roman villas found near the Via Domitia, Bonnieux has a marked heritage, which you will discover during your excursions, whether on foot or by bicycle. After attending its market (Friday morning), direction the heart of this typical Provencal village. Visit its Bakery Museum, admire the splendid 18th century Hôtel de Rouville (which now houses the Town Hall), stroll through the remains of the 13th century towers and ramparts, before visiting the "Neuve" church, which dates from 1870.

Raise your nose a little to admire the Old Church of Bonnieux. Accessible by a staircase composed of 86 steps, this imposing church, half Gothic, half Romanesque, which dominates the whole town, was built during the 12th century. Called "high church", this old church will offer you under its hundred-year-old cedars incredible panoramas on the villages of Roussillon and Gordes as well as on the magnificent Monts du Vaucluse. Majestic viewpoints that are perfect playgrounds for lovers of outdoor activities, who can hike at leisure through the plains planted with vines or fragrant lavender. After a tour of the Saint-Symphorien priory and the Philippe Tower (built by a man who dreamed of seeing the sea from the Luberon), walk along the Claparèdes plateau to discover many dry-stone peasant huts, before going to the Pont Julien. Located 5 kilometres north of Bonnieux, this splendid Roman site dating from the year III BC was built on the via Domitia, which once connected Turin to Narbonne. 80 meters long, this wide limestone bridge is certainly the oldest building in Bonnieux.

Finally passing through Bonnieux, take the opportunity to discover the most beautiful corners of the Vaucluse. To visit? Notre-Dame-de-Sénanque Abbey (22 kilometres away), Rustrel and its incredible "Colorado Provençal" (30 kilometres away), but also Cavaillon, Puget, Avignon and Marseille (90 kilometres away) are all sites not to be missed during your stay in Bonnieux.
