True jewel of the bay of Morlaix, Carantec is one of those charming Breton cities that it will be difficult for you to leave once your holidays are over. A well-preserved family resort adored for its mild climate and superb views over the ocean and Breton hills, Carantec offers its visitors a wide choice of activities for young and old, as well as a myriad of beautiful beaches where they can lay their towels and relax to the rhythm of the quivering waves.
To appreciate the charm of Carantec, you will have to discover its magnificence during a walk on the Sentier des Douaniers. Mythical path bordering the Breton coast, this route located on the GR 34 is famous for being one of the most beautiful in France. In Carantec, from the tip of Pen-al-Lann, the walk is really worth it with a sumptuous view of the Château de Taureau and the Louët Island and its famous lighthouse from 1857 which constitute one of the most famous panoramas of Brittany. Built in the XVIIth century to protect Morlaix and its bay then remodelled by Vauban, the Château du Taureau, fortified vessel made of stones, beautiful gangways and raised bridges, is one of the sites to visit during your stay in Carantec. To do so, you will have to board a shuttle from Carantec or Plougasnou. Don't forget your camera : from the boat, the view on Carantec is worth the trip !
Sportsmen ? Head for the "Plage du Kelenn" where you will find its nautical centre and diving club. If it is not the biggest beach of Carantec, it is however the one where all the dynamism of the resort is concentrated. On the program of your days : kayak, along the coast, windsurfing, dinghy, optimist, first dive, boat license, sea rowing, "Jardin des mers" for the very young and catamaran will allow you to discover all the pleasures of water sports. During the summer, the beach hosts the "Soirées Transat", from festivities to daily changing programming : you will be able to attend plays, dance shows, film screenings and sports activities. The "Beach of Tahiti", a real jewel decorated with blond sand, is breathtaking for its visitors, especially at sunrise and sunset. Quite difficult to access, it still deserves your attention because of its paradisiacal setting, made of crystal clear water and pines overhanging it. The large beach of the "Grève Blanche" is certainly one of the most beautiful beaches of Carantec : oriented north, it is recognizable thanks to its beautiful villas on the seaside as well as for its very pretty points of view on the castle of Taurus and on the Callot island. From the beach, you can reach Calot Island to enjoy the superb beaches that adorn this wild islet, a true haven of peace. Whether you walk, boat, bike or kayak, the trip is worth it! We advise you to go to the "Plage de Penne ar Warenn", the most beautiful beach on Calot Island : a real feast for the eyes, this area protected from the prevailing winds looks like the end of the world. More frequented by rabbits than humans, it is the perfect place for a peaceful break, to the sound of the ballet of seagulls and the sea.
However, if water sports are not your cup of tea, you can still play tennis indoors or on clay, or perfect your swing on the pointe de Kéromnès golf course, a 9-hole practice facing the sea that will delight beginners and experienced golfers alike. Finally, there are many hiking routes, as well as cycle paths that will allow you to visit Carantec by mountain bike or electric bike in particular.
