About thirty kilometres from Draguignan and less than an hour from the magnificent beaches of the Mediterranean (and the very elegant Gulf of Saint-Tropez), the small Provencal village of Entrecasteaux is located in the heart of the Bresque valley. Surrounded by green hills, Entrecasteaux, perched on its rocky peak, was built on the ruins of an old 16th century fortress, before being redesigned several times during the 17th and 18th centuries. Perfectly maintained, this village with its beautiful stones and wealthy buildings will delight history lovers thanks to its splendid remains, just like the Château de la ville, located in the heart of its historic heart. Residence of many lords of Provence over the centuries, as well as Madame de Sévigné, this remarkable castle impresses notably thanks to the beauty of its French-style gardens, designed by none other than the famous Le Nôtre in person. Take the time to stroll through the lower town, through the narrow calades that will lead you to the river La Bresque, which waters the town. During this stroll through the stairways and vaulted passages, you will discover the "Glacière", an astonishingly round monument that once served as a "refrigerator", but also the tall and narrow façades, bridges (including the Pont Sainte-Catherine and the Pont Saint-Pierre) and old wooden doors, which make this medieval village a listed site. The fortified church of Saint-Sauveur in Gothic style (14th century), but also the Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs and its former altarpiece, the fountain of the Place, the Chapelle Sainte-Anne and the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-l'Aube (a very fine example of Romanesque art) should also be added to your list of visits to Entrecasteaux.

In addition to being classified and recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in the Var, Entrecasteaux invites its visitors to discover the pretty corners of the department, located less than 20 minutes away by car. Hiking enthusiasts? Lake Carcès and its Caramy Falls are a must for walkers staying in the area. While it is closed to swimming, this beautiful lake invites you to hike and take refreshing breaks, as do its eponymous waterfalls north of the lake. Further north of Entrecasteaux, the Cascades de Sillans are also worth seeing: if the view from the belvedere facing the waterfalls is worth a detour, we recommend taking a small path in the heart of the olive trees to get to the foot of the river to observe the waterfalls as closely as possible, to enjoy a magnificent view. The troglodytic caves of Villecroze, or the Abbey of Thoronet are also musts to see during your holidays in Entrecasteaux.

Finally, it is difficult to resist the call of the sea: the sea and the Mediterranean beaches are only an hour's drive from the village, so you can go there to enjoy the sun and the wide expanses of fine sand of Sainte-Maxime, Port-Grimaud, Saint-Tropez, Fréjus or Saint-Raphaël.
