At the foot of the slopes of Grand Tourmalet is the pretty ski resort of La Mongie. The largest ski area in the Pyrenees, this resort stretches over 100 kilometres and reaches an altitude of 1800 metres. With its 68 slopes, 170 snow cannons and 36 ski lifts, it is the ideal place for ski lovers. Snowboarding, alpine skiing, but also free ride, La Mongie, included in the resort of Grand Tourmalet, is the favorite place for off-piste lovers. Several spots have made the resort famous, such as the Vallée Blanche, the Dômes, Caderolles or Aygues Cluses for connoisseurs. Some areas are also reserved for children wishing to spend their first star but also for beginner skiers who can try their hand at sliding on the fun course as well as in the "new glides" area.
In La Mongie, many activities are offered to holidaymakers throughout the year : tobogganing down the Tourmalet, snowman contests, torchlight descents, snowmobiling, stargazing from the Pic du Midi, dog sledding, snowshoeing in the moonlight... You can even try mountain biking on snow or paragliding ! Finally, an ideal activity to do as a family, a snow groomer ride at nightfall is an original way to enjoy the joys of the mountains.
Located nearby, don't miss the Pic du Midi ! Accessible by cable car from La Mongie, the Pic du Midi is famous for being the most beautiful panorama of the Pyrenees. From its panoramic terraces, you will have an exceptional view over some 300 kilometres of Pyrenean peaks. An unforgettable moment, a real breath of fresh air to share with family or friends. After having observed the snowy and majestic landscapes which are offered to you, the experienced skiers will be able to try the descent located on the slope of La Mongie until Artigues : with its 10 kilometers of descent for 1700 meters of uneven, the strong sensations are guaranteed !
Near La Mongie, many walks and hikes are organized to discover the local fauna and flora. Thus, around the Payolle lake located 15 kilometres from the resort, cross-country ski lovers will be able to enjoy more than 50 kilometres of marked trails, and snowshoe lovers will have the opportunity to discover the 35 kilometres of walking trails in a magnificent and preserved natural area.
Finally, as the saying goes : "After the effort, the comfort" ! Sit down in one of the many restaurants in the resort, from the Bocadillo Café to the Taoulet and the inevitable Schuss, you will discover the local specialities, comforting and gourmet : black pork from Bigorre, garbure, confits, cakes on the spit but also raclette, fondue Pyrenean and other cassoulets will warm your taste buds.

Rent your equipment at Intersport : Their organization is perfect (even on Saturdays). The system of keeping the equipment at the foot of the slopes in the evening means that you don't have to carry your skis and boots back to the apartment.
