The Dordogne is one of France's top destinations for green holidays and is the perfect place to stay to discover the relief, history and culture "made in France". Ready for an immersion in traditions, for holidays that move and are remembered for a long time? Direction Lanzac.
Sticking to Souillac from which it is separated by the tortuous meanders of the Dordogne, the town of Lanzac is located in the Lot department, in the Occitan region. Very family oriented, this charming town has a beautiful heritage, typical of the region, which you can discover during your excursions. On the list of sites to see, the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste (a former priory in the 13th century) is worth a look, as is "Le Prieuré", a former 18th century monastery converted into a dwelling. A land of character, but also a very ancient land, Lanzac shelters on its territory some traces of its distant occupation, as the two dolmens that are the imposing dolmen of Cieurac (also called the Dolmen of the Cartayroux) and that of Grèzelade attest. In order to discover the different faces of Lanzac, the commune has equipped itself with footpaths, perfect for both lovers of quiet walks and sportsmen in search of sensations. The Durantie mountain bike circuit is to be done: 11 kilometres long, this rather sporty loop promises great sensations, but also magnificent panoramas from the highest peaks of the village. Routes in the direction of Gourdon, but also Souillac, Carlux or the Gardens of Cadiot will not fail to allow you to marvel at the beauty of the local landscapes, made up of valleys covered with thick vegetation. And in addition to walking or cycling tours, the course of the Dordogne River is perfect for canoe or kayak trips! Martel (12 kilometres away) is well worth a visit, as are the magnificent Château de Fenelon (11 kilometres away), the Château de Montfort as if drawn from a fairy tale and the splendid gardens of the manor house of Eyrignac. A must do during your trip to Lanzac? Visit Rocamadour. Located just 13 kilometres from the village, Rocamadour is an emblematic stop on your journey. In the Regional Natural Park of the Causses du Quercy, this town with a very ancient history has welcomed numerous pilgrims every year since medieval times. Small in size but big in historical treasures and listed buildings, this cliff-hanging city inspires and fascinates with its wonderful castle, its Way of the Cross, its seven sanctuaries and its Black Madonna in the Notre-Dame chapel.
Staying in Lanzac is also an opportunity to take a real plunge into history. Nearby are some of the most beautiful caves in France, which we warmly recommend you to visit. The Grottes de Lacave, the Grotte des Merveilles, the Gouffre de Réveillon, the Gouffre du Saut de la Pucelle, the Grotte de Presque, those of Cougnac, the Pechpialet, the Trou de l'Arc or the Grotte de Cro-Brique are among the most beautiful sites to visit. But if there is one that should hold your full attention, it is certainly the Gouffre de Padirac. Located about thirty kilometres from Lanzac, this breathtaking abyss is the first underground site in France. Located 103 meters underground, this monumental natural cavity will give you the impression of visiting the bowels of the Earth. Finally, as a family, after all these cultural visits, opt for a short visit to the Quercyland: an amusement park located in the commune of Souillac, it offers a multitude of rides and other attractions that young and old alike will love, from canoeing to the labyrinth, not forgetting the slides and many other things that will amaze the whole family.
