For a few years now, Brittany has become the leading summer destination for those who dream of nature, escape, and sunny interludes on sublime and quiet beaches. You want to be tempted, but do not know where to go? Plouharnel seems like a good idea for an introduction to the charms of Brittany. Follow the guide!

A bend in the road linking Carnac to the Quiberon peninsula, Plouharnel is a must-see in the Morbihan region of Brittany. Just imagine: a land surrounded by legends, many times painted by artists inspired by its light and its flowers... Beautiful white houses with windows surrounded by granite, bridges, boats, a port, small restaurants where you can eat delicious cakes facing the ocean: everything here seems to be straight from a postcard. Rich in a very, very ancient history, Plouharnel, somewhat like its famous neighbour Carnac, is a land of megaliths, and has on its territory one of the most important megalithic sites of the Neolithic period in the region. On foot or by bike, stroll through the town and its surroundings to discover the dolmen of Gohquer, the dolmen with a corridor of the chapel of Saint-Antoine, the menhir of Crucuno, the cromlech of Crucuno, or its dolmen with a corridor. The tumulus of Rondossec, the dolmens of Kergabat, Kerroc'h, the alignments of menhirs of Vieux-Moulin and Sainte-Barbe will give you a good overview of the historical heritage of Plouharnel. On the built-up side, the church of Saint-Armel, the chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Fleurs, the 16th century chapel of Sainte-Barbe, the abbey of Saint-Michel de Kergonan and the splendid abbey of Sainte-Anne de Kergonan will complete this discovery.

On the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, Plouharnel is renowned for its two coastal facades, both situated on either side of the isthmus of the Quiberon peninsula. On the west side, you will love to walk on the dune cordon of Gâvres-Quiberon, the largest dune cordon in Brittany linking the tip of Gâvres to the wonderful Fort Penthièvre. Home to more than 800 plant species and a dense fauna, it is a perfect place for a nature walk to discover the wealth of Breton biodiversity. On the eastern side, the visitor's gaze will tirelessly focus on the coast of the Bay of Quiveron: alternating small sandy coves and fabulous natural havens (such as those of Porh en Lliz and Porc Saint-Guénhël in particular), this bay also called the Bay of Plouharnel reveals at low tide a foreshore that will delight lovers of fishing. On this side of the coastline, you can also discover the state forest of Quiberon which borders the Plage des Sables Blancs, and which is a real little paradise for hiking, picnics and mountain bike excursions. As for the beaches, for hiking, swimming and water sports, you will be spoilt for choice! From the popular Sainte-Barbe beach to the Guérite beach, not forgetting the famous Sables Blancs beach, you can choose to relax under the sun (yes, it is sunny in Brittany!), or practice a whole range of water sports according to your wishes: surfing (Quiberon is a fantastic spot, renowned throughout France!), but also paddle, sail, jet-ski, windfoil, towed buoy, kitesurf, water-ski, water walking, snorkelling, bodyboarding, canoeing, kayaking, catamaran, sea trips, scuba diving, sand yachting, windsurfing and other sensational sports will delight the whole family.

A very good address in Quiberon for your taste buds: the restaurant "Au bon Accueil" facing Port Maria with fresh seafood. I recommend in particular the smelt fricassee with homemade chips and rum baba. A delight! And the prices are very low.
