Ah, Tourtour... Amazing, captivating, Tourtour seduces and fascinates visitors passing through its walls. Reputed to be one of the most beautiful villages of the Var, between Draguignan and the Verdon mountains, Tourtour is definitely the perfect place for an authentic and exotic stay.

Dominating Provence from its 635 meters high, with its panoramas stretching from the Sainte-Victoire mountain to the beaches of the Mediterranean and Fréjus, Tourtour is an invitation to plunge into History, with a "big H". Situated away from the big cities and tourist roads, Tourtour is a bit of paradise for those who want to escape the crowds and meet up with friends or family. Its green setting, its old stones and its picturesque character make it a wonderful postcard of what we love in the Var, namely the authenticity and beauty of the heritage. Its very old architecture takes its roots years back in time. The current location of the village would even date back to the 12th century, as evidenced by the presence of three ramparts still visible today. The first one shelters the very first houses of Tourtour, made of ochre stones topped with round tiles and small doors not very high, as well as the medieval castle. Here, the alleys are bathed in sunshine, and the vaulted passageways arouse the curiosity of passers-by while telling the history of the village. If the second enclosure plunges the visitor into the 14th and 15th centuries, with its wide gates and its Grand'Rue, it is the Place des Ormeaux that catches the visitor's attention with its pink marble fountain. There are only 8 fountains in total in the commune, superb fountains that you can discover on rue des Caves, rue de l'Hôpital, rue de la Trinité or rue Grande. The third enclosure of the village is that of the XVIIth century, which includes the superb Sainte-Trinité chapel, as well as the communal castle and a large part of the houses, terraces and gardens which make the charm of Tourtour. The Romanesque church of Saint-Denis which dominates the village is worth seeing, as is the Clock Tower, the wash house, the Romanesque bridge near the Abbey of Florièyes, the Rosary Chapel, the former 16th century Rapheles Castle which now houses the Town Hall and the Post Office, The bastide of La Baume in the north-east of the village (Bernard Buffet's last home, known in particular for its waterfall), the magnificent Grimaldi Tower, not forgetting the old oil mill and the works of Bernard Buffet in front of the Town Hall are all essential sites for your holidays in Tourtour.

In addition to its undeniable historical and cultural side, Tourtour will win the hearts of nature lovers. Here, there are many hiking and cycling trails that you can do, in the direction of Draguignan in the southeast, or the wonderful Lake Sainte-Croix about thirty kilometres to the northwest. A paradise of nature, the lake of Sainte-Croix is one of the pearls of the Verdon. In addition to hiking and photo sessions (yes, it is impossible to leave this place without immortalizing it at least ten times), the lake lends itself perfectly to the practice of nautical activities. Swimming, fishing, paddle, boat trips, surfing, pedal boats, kayak or canoe trips, catamaran... In short, you'll have understood, enough to satisfy young and old alike who come to Tourtour for holidays, and make them want to come back as soon as possible!
