Chatel has successfully managed to preserve the charm of the quiet mountain village it once was with all the buildings in keeping with the traditional style. Just a stones throw from the Swiss border and ideally located at the foot of the Portes du Soleil ski area it has everything you could want from a traditional skiing holiday. A free bus service runs all day to ferry people between their accommodation and the ski lifts so getting around is never a problem. With family or friends Chatel is welcoming for everyone with the usual variety of mountain activities such as ice skating and husky sledging available alongside skiing. The apres-ski life is more bar oriented with a really friendly atmosphere and great happy hours. Some of the bars offer live music and dj nights which are also good fun. The Portes du Soleil is a vast cross-border French/Swiss ski area and is one of the largest in the world encompassing 14 resorts and 650km of slopes. Situated only an hour from Geneva, between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, accessibility to The Portes du Soleil is excellent. Getting over 8 metres of snowfall each year there is good skiing throughout the season and with such a large number of slopes there is so much to discover. It is a thrilling experience to tear down the slopes between snowy meadows and forests, from valley to valley and from country to country. Well known resorts in the Portes du Soleil include Avoriaz, Chatel, Morzine and Les Gets.
