Aragon
The region of Aragon is located in northeastern Spain and is made up of three provinces, Huesca, Zaragoza and Teruel. The capital is Zaragoza, which is Spain's fifth largest city. It has a contrasting landscape from icy glaciers to verdant valleys and extensive plains. Spain's largest river, the Ebro crosses the Zaragoza province and the highest mountain in the Pyrénées, the Aneto is found in this region. Aragon has managed to preserve its wild rugged beauty and boasts the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, which is home to diverse wildlife and birds of prey. The medieval town of Jaca contains the oldest Romanesque cathedral in Spain and there are many ancient castles to be visited such as the Loarre castle. Teruel and Zaragoza have remnants from Moorish history and have their sites registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
