La Lagune de Contaut, in the heart of the Dunes et Marais d'Hourtin Natural Reserve, is the perfect place for excursions to discover the natural resources of the commune and its coast. This preserved setting where herons, otters, ducks, swans, kingfishers, frogs, turtles and dragonflies live together features a marked and playful itinerary adapted to all levels, for walks with family or friends. The Dunes et Marais d'Houtin Nature Reserve, covering more than 2100 hectares, will generally offer you the opportunity to make many excursions to discover the most beautiful landscapes of the Aquitaine coast, where beaches, dunes, marshes, lakes and maritime pine forests stretch as far as the eye can see. Many hiking, cycling and equestrian routes cross it from Hourtin plage, Piqueyrot and Contaut in the form of green, blue or red loops depending on their length and difficulty.
During their holidays in Hourtin, many holidaymakers abandon their cars in favour of cycling. There are also many cycle paths that cross the municipality, from Hourtin Ville to Hourtin Port (2.3 kilometres), from Hourtin Ville to Hourtin Plage (12 kilometres), but you will also find paths leading to the Dunes and Marshes Nature Reserve, as well as to the banks of the lake in the Piqueyrot district.

Surfing, sailing, kitesurfing, wakeboarding, stand up paddle, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, motorboat rental, pedal boat rental or water skiing, these are all activities that you can discover along its ocean beaches and on its lake. Lovers of beautiful waves will prefer to head for the "Grande Plage" océane, when families will enjoy the calm, warm and shallow waters of Lake Hourtin for swimming and picnicking. Fishermen will be able to enjoy the very fishy waters of the lake for beautiful days of fishing with friends.
Not far away, you can reach some of the most beautiful sites in the region by bike, motorcycle or car: the Médoc vineyards and their castles, but also the Gironde estuary, Lacanau, Carcans, Soulac and its seaside villas... Finally, it will be impossible for you to leave Hourtin without having benefited from the generosity of its local products. Médoc wines, fluted, foie gras, lamb, oysters, fish and seafood will be on hand during your visit.
