A coveted destination in the Charente-Maritime, the island of Oléron is a dream come true for many. Between green nature and small towns bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, Oléron has everything to please. To the southwest of the island, Saint-Trojan-les-Bains is famous for its large beaches of fine sand. But this is not the only reason why it has attracted so many visitors since the 19th century. A festive atmosphere, a joie de vivre unique to Saint-Trojannais, this is what awaits the curious little ones who have come to venture onto this magnificent island !

In the past, Saint-Trojan was a small, unpretentious village that survived thanks to fishing and the salt trade. Isolated from the rest of the island because of its impassable roads during bad weather, the city received few visitors and its wild beauty remained hidden from the rest of the world for a long time. However, in the 19th century, Saint-Trojan underwent a period of great change which made it pass from any small village to a very popular seaside resort. Oyster farming takes over the production of salt, the saltworks are transformed into oyster beds. Maritime links with the continent appeared as well as railways. Towards the end of the century, the sea bathing fashion brought more and more tourists to Saint-Trojan. It then became Saint-Trojan-les-Bains, the appellation being at the time intended to enhance the seaside resorts. Shops, hotels, restaurants and other tourist infrastructures flourished throughout the commune.

In Saint-Trojan-les-Bains, yellow and green abound in all the gardens. And for good reason, the mimosa is the emblem of the city ! It was in 1892 that a young St Trojannais couple brought back this sumptuous flower from their trip to the Côte d'Azur to embellish their garden. Little by little, the mimosa invaded the town to the point that, in 1959, it was decided to organise the first Mimosa Cavalcade. Since then, the Saint-Trojannais celebrate each year the beauty of this delicate flower with parades of floats and folk troops. The festive atmosphere that captures the village will certainly make you want to join the celebrations !

Sport, relaxation, arts and leisure, stays in Saint-Trojan are always full of promise. From golden dunes to marshes, the natural landscapes that surround the city have always inspired artists. On the oyster port, some of them make you discover their works in their charming colourful huts. As in many seaside resorts, water sports are the kings of Saint-Trojan. Kitesurfing, sailing, catamaran, kayak, and many other water sports await you on the beaches of Saint-Trojannais. Finally, the thalassotherapy institute is fully resourced. Wellness experts promise you serenity and relaxation for the time of a cure in a space dedicated to the sea.

You can buy bicycles for 20 or 30€ instead of renting them. Look at the Boncoin. Then sell the bike to your salesman for 5 and 10€.
