Is it a more idle destination than the Côte d'Azur ? Cagnes-sur-Mer is an ideal holiday resort for sunny holidays and is a popular seaside resort for holidaymakers. Each year, the one that once inspired Auguste Renoir by its beauty attracts many visitors, envious to taste the sweetness of life of this pretty corner of the Alpes-Maritimes.
In addition to being a destination of idleness, Cagnes-sur-Mer can boast a rich historical heritage, pleasant to visit. Its medieval perched village is perfect for a cool break in the middle of narrow streets lined with palm, orange, cypress and olive trees. The "Haut-de-Cagnes" as it is also called, is at the top of the hill of the castle Grimaldi. Located on the castle square, the latter is the most famous monument in Cagnes-sur-Mer. Built in 1300 by the Lord of Cagnes Rainier Grimaldi, this former castle became a seigneurial residence in 1620, then a museum in 1946. Cosy and luxurious, it is famous for its baroque ceilings and old tiles that have kept all their superb. Classified as a Historic Monument, this imposing castle hosts exhibitions of contemporary art as well as concerts, the Olive Tree Museum and the Donation Solidor. During your wanderings in this picturesque village, you will certainly have the opportunity to discover the many religious monuments that line Cagnes-sur-Mer. The 13th century church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul, the chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Protection and its frescoes, but also the remains of the 14th century chapel of Saint-Anne are also part of the things to see during your stay. Here, there is an atmosphere conducive to relaxation, and you will certainly enjoy sitting at a café terrace for a quiet break in the shade of the trees : It is by appreciating the small details which make all the charm of this village made of narrow and flowered paved streets, stones and shady paths that you will understand why so many artists, from Renoir to Brigitte Bardot passing by Yves Klein and Modigliani, have a day elected residence in what is nicknamed the "Montmartre de la Côte d'Azur". If there is another visit you will have to make during your stay, it is that of the former home of the painter Auguste Renoir. Today transformed into a museum in honour of the artist, you can visit her and discover her studio as well as some of her collections of paintings, sculptures and lithographs made by Auguste Renoir.
Known as a lively destination thanks to its many festivities and casino, Cagnes-sur-Mer is also appreciated for its 2.5 km long waterfront : lined with bars and restaurants, you will love to stroll there before eating in front of the sea. As far as beaches are concerned, Cagnes-sur-Mer is famous for its beautiful stretches made up of large pebbles (with the exception of the Grand Large beach which will please lovers of fine sand): we therefore advise you to bring swimming shoes before rushing into the crystal clear waters that border the town. Famous for its fresh waters, "Baie des Anges" is ideal for long afternoons of idleness under the sun, enhanced by a few refreshing fathoms. Dynamic seaside resort, Cagnes-sur-Mer will delight sportsmen thanks to the multitude of nautical activities along its coast : sailing, catamaran, surfing, parachute climbing, flyfish, towed buoy, wakeboard, kneeboard, paddle or jet-ski rides, sea trips, scuba diving, swimming... There will be something for everyone. However, if you prefer the mainland, you can play tennis, take advantage of the cycle paths to discover Cagnes-sur-Mer and its neighbouring towns of Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Antibes, Nice and Juan-les-Pins, rent a rosalie for an unforgettable afternoon of family laughter, or head towards the town's racecourse. Horse racing enthusiasts know that Cagnes-sur-Mer has one of the most important racecourses in France, which hosts numerous high-level races every year : horse shows, international jumps and other fairs give rhythm to the life of the inhabitants of the town.
Finally, the Côte d'Azur is also an atypical gastronomy that you will certainly have the opportunity to taste during your stay in Cagnes-sur-Mer : ratatouille, salad niçoise, socca, pan bagnat, pancetta, pissaladière, soup with pistou, aïoli, daube niçoise, zucchini flower fritters and other fresh fish will fill the gourmets passing through this so pretty city.

Transportation allows you to go anywhere you want in the region. You have to like walking too. The old Cagnes is beautiful.

The walk in the "Hauts de Cagnes" district is very pleasant. In addition, we took the free shuttle bus from the nearby bus station, which is very convenient and avoids parking problems. We also recommend the Renoir Museum and the Cros de Cagnes district, a former fishing district.
