Province Cantabria
Cantabria is a very captivating region of Spain and has Santander as its captial. It forms part of Green Spain, the area facing the Atlantic Ocean between the Cantabrian sea and the Cantabrian Mountains. It is the Atlantic Ocean which determines the region's climate providing a rich, green vegetation. Cantabria is rich in archeological sites dating back from the Lower Paleolithic period. There are 10 caves in the region which have been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Most significant of these is the cave of Altamira which contains ancient cave paintings. Cantabria also has natural and national parks. To attract tourists, Cantabria offers caves, museums, civil and religious architecture and fairs and festivals. As a coastal region, the gastronomy includes fresh fish and there are many local specialities to be sampled as a result.
