The undeniable jewel of Capcir, this historical and geographical region of the Pyrénées-Orientales, Les Angles shines with its authenticity and the beauty of its landscapes. This village, which was founded in 966, is the highest on the Capcir plateau. It culminates at 1655 m. The ski resort dates back to the 1960s and has enabled the local population to find an alternative resource to declining agriculture. Today, it is therefore the tourist activity that makes it possible to maintain the local heritage.
No less than nine fountains are scattered throughout the village and give a poetic touch to the whole. The Saint-Michel des Angles church, rebuilt at the end of the 19th century, was built on the site of the former castle chapel. Witnesses of this period, the charm of the ancient granite baptismal font is matched only by the baroque altarpiece in the left transept.
Those interested in even older times will be seduced by the archaeological site of Vallsera, located at the intersection of the valleys that extend at the foot of the Serra de Mauri mountains in the north and Puig del Pam in the south. This unforgettable place is accessible by car, but you can also choose to cycle to it.
Les Angles is also a great mountain bike destination. The village resort has a Bike Park with 500 m of altitude difference and 50 km of slopes of all levels. It is also possible to practice this sport in the middle of nature. It is up to you to imagine your own tour in the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees Regional Natural Park, from Mont Saint-Louis to the Capcir lakes, passing through the wooded plateaus that dominate the Haut Confluent.
In winter, finally, the 22 ski lifts in the resort allow you to take off on the 45 slopes. The ascent by cable car is worth the detour and will make you discover a unique view of the massif!
