Ideal destination for sunny vacations, Sète perfectly combines the infrastructures of a modern seaside resort with the charm of the picturesque villages of the South of France. Located on the Mediterranean Sea, halfway between La Grande Motte and Cap d'Agde, the town nicknamed the "Little Venice of Languedoc" will win the hearts of many vacationers.
A unique city, between its pond, the sea, its canals and its harbor, Sète seems to stand on the water. Attractive and sunny, it welcomes every year many visitors, as much for its folklore as for its fine sand. Lovers of idleness will not be able to resist the 12 kilometers of beaches along the coast of this seaside resort! While strolling along the Corniche promenade which overlooks the sea, you will discover the magnificence of the Sète coastline, full of secret coves, such as the Corniche beach which is certainly one of the most beautiful beaches of Sète. Protected by a seawall, its large stretch of sand faces an incredible turquoise water, where windsurfers and kitesurfers indulge in their favorite activities. Bordered by a large pedestrian promenade and restaurants, the beach of La Fontaine is one of the most family-friendly in Sète. Volleyball courts, inflatable games and a friendly atmosphere are all available in front of a calm and shallow sea. Accessible on foot or by bike, the Jalabert beach is the wildest beach of this seaside resort: calm, far from the agitation of the city center, it is hidden by dunes and will delight vacationers in search of tranquility, just like the Crique de l'Anau, coiled in the middle of rocks.
In addition to swimming and sunbathing on the beach, you will have the opportunity to occupy your afternoons in many ways: scuba diving, renting a jet-ski, rosalies or bicycles, horseback riding, flying over Sète in a microlight aircraft, tennis, petanque, guided kayak tours, Nordic walking and hiking in the water: there is no lack of activities in the heart of this maritime city!
Nestled at the foot of Mont Saint-Clair, Sète is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea on one side and the Etang de Thau on the other. Stroll along the Lido, the thin strip of coastline made of vineyards and salt flats that separates the sea from the pond, and cycle around the lake. The largest and deepest lake in Occitania, you will find sea bass, sea bream, sea urchins, clams and seahorses, but above all shellfish and oysters, which are the main resource of the Etang de Thau.
The port of Sète is a picturesque place, which you must visit: sit down on a bench, to admire in the early morning the coming and going of the boats in the bay. When you return from fishing, go to the fish market to buy fresh fish and observe this scene of daily life, which has inspired many writers, poets and singers (such as Marcel Pagnol, Paul Valéry and Georges Brassens): that of the fishermen's work, thanks to which Sète has been able to become the first Mediterranean port. Climb up to the Mont Saint-Clair, by the 250 steps of the "Biscan-pas" path: at an altitude of 180 meters, from the Saint-Clair belvedere, you can enjoy an extraordinary view of the Thau lagoon, the vineyards, and the Mediterranean. Wander through the pine forest of the Pierres Blanches, where numerous paths will lead you to magnificent panoramas.
A true "gallery city", Sète is an open-air museum that you should discover with your family or friends. The walls of the city have been painted with a multitude of colors by artists from all over France. You can find these works in rue de Metz, place de l'Hospitalité, place Léon Blum and in rue des Trois journées.
Squared by the canals, Sète is known all over the world for its famous Languedoc nautical jousting tournaments. If you come on vacation to Sète between June and September, you will certainly have the opportunity to attend what turns out to be more than a sport, but a feature of the soul of the Sétois. During the Saint-Louis festival, the Sétois jousts gather thousands of enthusiasts and curious people, impatient to see the participants fall into the water.
Finally, how can we talk about Sète without mentioning its gastronomy? You cannot leave without having tasted a gourmet macaroni, mussels, stuffed squid, shellfish or a tasty freshly caught sea bream.

Super restaurant "La Tablée de La Ferme Marine" on Marseillan. An all-you-can-eat seafood buffet for 31.90 €. We eat in front of the Thau Lagoon on the oyster beds. Very fresh and varied products: crayfish, langoustines, half crayfish, oysters (raw or cooked), mussels, clams, prawns, tiger prawns... and of course a "carte terre/mer" formula. Reservation is strongly recommended.

The Espace Georges Brassens is well organized with a very well done tour of his life and work. We also enjoyed the oysters from the pond bought at the shellfish farm at Pointe du Barrou.
