Var forms part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It is next to the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône in the West, Vaucluse (barely a few hundred metres away), the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the North, the Alpes-Maritimes in the East and is bathed by the Mediterranean sea in the South.
