Location
Situated on the outskirts of La Rochelle, Puilboreau is a commune in the Charente-Maritime department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. A recent arrival, the town was formed in 1858 from the merger of Dompierre and Lagord.
However, the territory has existed as a village since at least the 12th century. Its main activity was winegrowing, with wines processed in La Rochelle, and a brandy that enjoyed a certain renown in the time of Philippe-Auguste. In the course of the 19th century, due to vine diseases, Puilboreau turned to wheat growing and livestock breeding.
Puilboreau's proximity to La Rochelle has earned it a certain notoriety among tourists, making it a pleasant stopping-off point for visitors to the region. A modest architectural heritage completes the appeal.
