However, it is only a 10-minute drive from Castro-Urdiales, 25 minutes from Bilbao, 45 minutes from Santander and 70 minutes from Donostia-San Sebastián on the Cantabrian A-8 freeway. Otañes is a quiet town set in a green valley. It belongs to the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, in northern Spain. It is surrounded by nature trails that can be explored on foot, by bike or on horseback. It has several beaches, located in Castro-Urdiales, Mioño, Oriñón and Laredo. Mountain enthusiasts will also find something to suit them on the many and varied itineraries available. For horse lovers, there is a riding school in Mioño.
