Do you know the village of Bransat? In the department of Allier, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, this village nestled in the greenery 32 kilometers north of Vichy is the perfect place to stay, for a quiet holiday, far from the crowd.
Once crossed by two Roman roads, Bransat is one of those little-known corners of the world that are well worth a visit. In the heart of the Allier, a few steps from Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule, Souvigny and Moulins, this rural village is a little paradise for those who are looking for peace, quiet and authenticity. Here, no fuss, only 500 souls live here, and that's why we like to be here, with family or friends. If Bransat is a (very) quiet destination, the town is nevertheless home to a beautiful heritage, which you can discover by walking or cycling. What should you see? The church of Saint-Georges! With its beautiful ogival windows, this Romanesque church is worth a visit both for its building and for its decorations representing Adam and Eve. Then go to the Gallo-Roman bridge built in 1557, recognizable by its two cross-arches that span a small river. The site of the Grosse Pierre menhir, the monolithic cross of Matrat on the old Roman road, and the pretty houses will give you a good overview of the heritage of Bransat. Our advice for not missing anything? Take the "Promenade Buissonnière" itinerary which, for 5 kilometres, will allow you to discover the abundant nature that surrounds Bransat while exercising thanks to the apparatus installed along the route.
By car or by bike, Vichy is an essential destination for any stay in Bransat, located only about thirty kilometres from the heart of the village. Touristic and cultural, Vichy is worth a visit for the splendour of its heritage. You will be able to see the Palais des Congrès-Opéra, but also its small pedestrian lanes, its passages animated by brasseries and cafés, its Hall des Sources, its thermal baths, its marvellous Napoleon III chalets decorated with bow-windows, without forgetting the Source des Célestins, and the bucolic walks along the Allier, which will not fail to make you succumb by their beauty. In the area of Bransat, there are also many castles to visit. The Château de Fontariol, the Château de Verneuil-en-Bourbonnais, the Château de Fourchaud and the Château de Billy, as well as the Grotte des Fées in Chatelperron or the Plage des Célestins in Vichy and the course of the Allier, perfect for canoeing, are all ideas for outings during your stay in the calm of the Bransat hills.
