When you arrive in Sallèles-d'Aude, one thing surprises you: its calm. A quiet and soothing little town, it unfolds before the eyes of its visitors beautiful alleys decorated with typical houses from the South of France. In the heart of the Languedoc vineyards, the village can be visited on foot, by bike or by boat, because everything here revolves around water. Omnipresent, in the centre of everything, water draws the contours of the commune, which is crossed by the Cesse, the Canal de Jonction, the Aude and the Canal du Midi. A small paradise for fishermen and walkers, Sallèles-d'Aude is a bucolic and, let's face it, romantic place! Who doesn't dream of a little stroll hand in hand in the shade of the umbrella pines that line its canals? The Canal de Jonction is also particularly pleasant: listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this waterway links the Canal du Midi to the Canal de la Robine via the Aude, and flows for more than 8 kilometres through the commune of Sallèles-d'Aude. The main attraction of the town, it is marked out by 7 locks and lined with a towpath ideal for family walks under its centuries-old pines. During these short outings along the waterways, you will discover the rich heritage of the town, passing through the Cesse lock, the Truilhas lock or the Gailhousty lock (or spillway), a magnificent canal bridge built by none other than Vauban himself, not forgetting the Sallèles-d'Aude footbridge, an Eiffel-type bridge from which the sports journalist Gérard Holtz commented on the Tour de France in 2009.

Also, after having taken the time to discover the Saint-Roch chapel and the former castle where François I would have stayed, head for the Amphoralis Museum. Situated overlooking archaeological excavations that have brought to light the remains of a Gallo-Roman pottery workshop, this site will lead you to discover the life of potters of the time, thanks to reconstructions of kilns and dwellings. But Sallèles-d'Aude is also a dynamic and festive town, which organises events throughout the year such as the potters' market which has been held every 14th and 15th August for almost 20 years, as well as the "Water, Earth and Wine Festival" in July.

While passing through Sallèles-d'Aude, take the opportunity to visit Narbonne and discover the flavours of the local cuisine: Montagne Noire cochonnailles, Limoux fricassee, olives, cassoulet with goose or duck confit, bouillabaisse, oysters, grilled hake, goat's and sheep's cheeses, honey, nougats and other delicacies will delight your taste buds. After having visited Narbonne, direction finally the beaches of the Mediterranean! In Gruissan, Saint-Pierre-La-Mer or Valras, there is only one watchword: FARNIENTE! In addition to sunbathing, you will of course be able to swim, and practice a whole host of water activities such as paddle, surfing, sea kayaking, sailing, scuba diving...
