Cultural and exotic, Alsace is full of treasures and nooks and crannies to visit. To discover the most beautiful faces, head for La Vancelle, a small town in the Lower Rhine that will satisfy your desire for nature and escape.

35 kilometres from Colmar and 12 kilometres from Sélestat, La Vancelle is ideally located in the heart of the Bas-Rhin mountains. Perched at an altitude of 500 metres in the south of the Altenberg massif, in the middle of a particularly generous natural environment, this friendly commune is the ideal place to spend your holidays, provided you enjoy a stay in the countryside. Its proximity to the Alsatian Wine Route and its flowered villages makes it a small paradise for lovers of gastronomy and hiking. Also, it is quite naturally that the village welcomes more and more walkers within its walls each year, curious to discover the surroundings of La Vancelle. But what to see? If there is one site not to be missed in the region, it is obviously the Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg. Attracting visitors from all over the world every year, this stocky and beautifully preserved fortress is one of the most beautiful castles in France. In the early morning, its high towers pierce the mist poetically, creating an almost magical picture where one could easily imagine oneself as a count, countess, emperor or empress, master of these extraordinarily beautiful places. Take the time to visit this imposing building, made of red stones dating from the 12th century. Long a witness to the wars between lords and kings of France and Germany, it is now a peaceful and surprising place to visit, which will take you directly for a trip to the heart of the Middle Ages. Its drawbridge, forge, mill, large bastion, magnificent spiral staircases, courtyard, weapons rooms, fortified keep, gun rooms at the top of the castle's highest towers and richly decorated apartments will delight history fans. If the visit is a little sporty (many are the stairs in this building!), it is really worth a visit, if only for the breathtaking panoramas on the Alsace plain, the Vosges and the Black Forest that it offers from its 757 meters of altitude. Passing through the area, you will find multiple signposted routes, which will allow hikers to explore the surroundings towards the Rocher du Coucou, or the summit of Hanenberg, two perched sites that will allow you to contemplate panoramic views of the valleys overflown by dozens of storks.

A land of history and castles, Alsace has several dozen of them, including the splendid Château du Frankenbourg: perched at the very top of the Schlossberg mountain, between La Vancelle and the village of Neubois, this medieval fortified castle in ruins dominates the whole of the southern Lower Rhine. For sublime views of the Val de Lièpvre and the Val de Villé, we recommend a walk to the castle through the thick forest, an ideal outing for the whole family. Do you like thematic tours? Monkey Mountain, the Volerie des Aigles, or even the Parc des Cigognes are all particularly recommended animal parks. Finally, it would be a pity to miss the small typical villages of Alsace located just a few minutes from La Vancelle: Ribeauvillé, Riquewihr, Kaysersberg (elected Most Beautiful Village of France), or Colmar are absolutely worth seeing, to discover all the beauty of half-timbered houses, colourful and full of charm.
