Do you dream of a holiday far, far, far away from the beaten track? Away from the usual tourist routes, far from the world and close to nature? Direction Les Forges, in the New Aquitaine region.

It is in the department of Deux-Sèvres that the charming town of Les Forges is located. On the border with the Vienne department, Les Forges is about 30 minutes west of Poitiers and 55 kilometres east of Niort. A quiet village unaccustomed to hordes of tourists, Les Forges is the perfect place to stay for a good vibe and a holiday to discover French heritage. Before anything else, put on your trainers and/or get on your bike to explore the region on its many hiking trails. They will lead you, tirelessly, to the discovery of the magnificent and well-preserved local countryside, which is very little frequented by tourists. Pedal to the nearby "Grand Étang", hike along the Marconnay stream, and follow the meanders of the Vonne to finally discover the Gallo-Roman site of Sanxay. Whether you are a Sunday walker or a seasoned sportsman, you are bound to find the right path to discover all the charms of the Forges and its surroundings. The commune also has a 27-hole golf course, the only one in the Deux-Sèvres, which is as accessible to beginners as it is to greens enthusiasts.

Parthenay, 20 kilometres away, is well worth a visit. Housed on one of the meanders of the Thouet River, in the heart of the Deux-Sèvres countryside, this town has a splendid historic centre through which you will gain access thanks to colossal gates inherited from the Middle Ages. Poetic 13th century bridges, crenellations, old stones, medieval churches and castles will complete your visit and your plunge into history. Also stop off at the Cherveux castle 28 kilometres away (12th century), before heading towards Poitiers, 29 kilometres from the centre of the Forges. Administrative capital of the Poitou-Charentes region, it impresses by the richness and variety of its monuments: its Notre-Dame church, its Saint-Pierre cathedral (a magnificent 12th century Gothic building), but also the Saint-Jean baptistery, the Jardin des Plantes and the Saint-Hilaire-le-Grand church famous for its sculpted capitals (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site) are a must to visit.

Finally, 34 kilometres from the village of Les Forges, the Futuroscope is already one of the must-sees of your stay. An immense leisure park combining technology, science, futuristic and fun attractions, it will satisfy young and old alike, in search of sensations or discoveries. The icing on the cake of your holidays, it has 40 attractions for the whole family, and throughout the year offers many shows that will immerse you in the magical and fantastic atmosphere of this famous amusement park.
