Looking for an escape and a holiday in the open air? Head for Brittany, and more particularly Audierne Bay, to discover the charming commune of Tréguennec.
A land of curlers and Breton legends, Tréguennec offers an ideal holiday destination for holidaymakers looking for a change of scenery. A place where you can relax and recharge your batteries, this town, cradled by the Atlantic Ocean, is known for its pebble crushing plant. Dating from the Second World War, this structure facing the sea was responsible for producing the materials used to build the Atlantic Wall, as well as many bunkers and blockhouses. One of them, the Trenoën blockhouse, is located on the edge of Kermabec beach.
Several kilometres long, Kermabec beach is well known to surf aficionados who meet there every year to try to face its highest waves. With its bay, its strong waves and its current, this supervised beach is popular with sliding enthusiasts who come to kitesurf, sail, paddle, sand yacht or water ski. Swimming is possible with the whole family, although you will still need to be vigilant. At low tide, this beach is revealed over more than 10 kilometres: the perfect opportunity for walkers and other hiking enthusiasts to push the walk to Pointe de la Torche. The dunes of Tréguennec are also ideal for beautiful excursions bathed in iodized air: marked by dolmens, rocks, steles and menhirs of all sizes, they shelter a large part of Brittany's history. There are many churches and chapels that you will discover during your expeditions in Treguenecois soil: the Saint-Alor chapel (19th century), the Notre-Dame-de-la-Pitié church (16th century), or the small and very photogenic Saint Vio chapel will be worth seeing during your visit. There are many hiking routes that you can take during your holidays in Tréguennec: between dunes, marshes, coastlines and ponds, 12 kilometres of marked trails criss-cross Audierne Bay to discover the secrets of the local fauna and flora. Further on, by car or bicycle for the bravest, Quimper and its faience factory (22 kilometres), Locronan la Petite Cité de Caractère (27 kilometres), Penmarch and its Eckmühl Lighthouse (20 kilometres), or Le Guilvinec and its port (21 kilometres) are worth a visit.
Finally, the gastronomy of South Finistère will be an essential part of your discovery of this small part of Brittany. On the menu? Sweet Bread Bigouden, spider crab, salicorns, saffron from the Bigouden country, Kouign-Amann, buckwheat pancakes with salted butter, clams, Cornish cider, chouchen, fresh fish, cabbage stew, lobsters, and cotriade will conquer the taste buds of holidaymakers curious to taste the delicacies of iodized flavours!
