30 kilometres from Bastia, north of Moriani-Plage, Castellare-di-Casinca has plenty to surprise. A village perched high in the mountains, it is definitely one of the most precious pearls of the Isle of Beauty. Once reputed to be the "granary" of Ancient Rome, nicknamed the "Orchard of Corsica", it is an important producer of fruits, appreciated for their quality. Fertile land, the village is surrounded by cherry and chestnut trees, which give it a crazy charm. In terms of built heritage, Castellare-di-Casinca is home to some very old houses, which date back to its construction during the 13th century. As you stroll through the heart of the village, you will discover the old stately homes, but also the fountains and small vaulted passages, as well as the medieval fortified houses that still exist today, and which make up the history of the village. Made of old stones, Castellare-di-Casinca boasts many very old monuments, such as its 15th century tower house, its many opulent farmhouses, its notables' houses and its listed monuments. The Piedmontese church of San Pancraziu is worth seeing: built between the 9th and 11th centuries, this picturesque church is worth a visit for its original bell tower, as well as for its rich interior decoration of polychrome wooden statues and paintings. The religious heritage of the village does not stop there: the remains of the medieval church of Sainte-Marguerite, but also the 18th century church of Saint-Sébastien, not forgetting the ruins of the church of Saint'Andrea, on the eponymous site, will be on the programme of your visits. The latter, which is particularly old, is housed on a rocky outcrop perched at an altitude of 291 metres, offering visitors incredible views of the village and the azure sea below.
But what particularly makes holidaymakers passing through this small Corsican village dream is above all its natural heritage. Situated in a natural area of ecological, faunistic and floristic interest, the commune of Castellare-di-Casinca is a real paradise for nature-loving hikers. In order to make the most of it, there are numerous footpaths running through the village's relief, marked routes that will take you to the listed villages of Penta-di-Casinca, San Tomè and the seaside. Ah, the sea: a treasure of brilliant blue, it borders for several kilometres the dream beaches of Castellare-di-Casinca. The Anghione beach will delight water sports enthusiasts who, at leisure, will be able to paddle, sail, surf, or even scuba dive, the perfect activity to discover the magnificence of Corsica's seabed. Lazing around, tanning contests, water walks and sand castle tournaments will complete your stay on the Island of Beauty.
