Ski enthusiasts are all, one day or another, passed by Morzine. This resort, located at an altitude of more than 1000 m, belongs to the French Alps, in the Aulps valley. It is framed by the point of Nyon, the point of Chamossière and the valley of Avoriaz.
It draws its origins in the medieval time. At this time, the Cistercian abbey of Sainte-Marie d'Aulps, 6 km from the present station, is one of the most powerful in the region. Apart from their architectural heritage, the monks contributed greatly to the development of the region.
Today, tourism is the main pillar of the local economy. The construction of the Grand Hotel in the 1920s marked a turning point. The commissioning of the Pléney cable car, which followed in the 1930s, completed making Morzine a must-see destination for winter sports enthusiasts. The only difference is that tobogganing and skiing are no longer the only sports practiced.
The Portes Du Soleil area is a real playground for thrill seekers, who can practice snowboarding, snowkiting, freestyle skiing or freeride skiing. Cyprien Richard, Yohann Taberlet, Johann Baisamy are the sports ambassadors of this station of excellence.
The ski area federates no fewer than 12 stations on either side of the Franco-Swiss border. In total, there are 196 ski lifts and 280 pistes. A beautiful escape from the side of Avoriaz, one of the two stations attached to Morzine, will allow you to change air. Let us recall that the station of Morzine-Avoriaz hosted the Tour de France about fifteen times during its existence. Notice to bike enthusiasts !

I recommend the bar with fast food in the center of Morzine "Le chalet". Good welcome, good beers and good food !

Restaurant "Le Clin d'Oeil" to recommend: good dishes and good reception. On the other hand, very average for "La Grange" where the service is overwhelmed by events; not enough staff.

Things to do: the forest footpath leading to a small farm where there are ponies and sheep. Very nice with the stream (and the children's games)! Also: the merry-go-round and horse-drawn carriage ride near the Tourist Office and skiing in Avoriaz. Good plan: the ski lockers that heat the boots for 10 euros a day at the Pleney lifts!
