Established on the banks of the Loire, between Brittany and Vendée, Nantes is a city with a rich historical heritage. City of Art and History, it contains in its heart some treasures, notably in its historical center. A major attraction of the city, the Château des Ducs de Bretagne is located in a district that it is good to discover on foot, at the rhythm of its beautiful buildings. Built on the right bank of the Loire during the 13th and 15th centuries, this former main residence of the Dukes of Brittany is a real fortress, made of seven towers connected by small curtains. In fact, don't rely on its rather austere exterior appearance and push its doors to discover its beautiful walls adorned with elegant white. With its 500 metre walkway, its refined courtyard and its beautiful apartments, it is the monument to visit during your visit to Nantes. If he is admirable during the day, at night, he lights up with a thousand lights, in an astonishing spectacle to see absolutely. Recently renovated, this superb castle houses the history museum of the city of Nantes, where you will find documents, writings and numerous paintings retracing the history of this historic city. Just opposite the castle is the Lu Tower, the former factory where the famous Nantes biscuits were made. If only one of the two original towers remains today (the second having been destroyed during the Second World War), it is however absolutely worth seeing. Decorated in blue, pink and gold with its original dome, it leaves no one indifferent. And in addition to being photogenic, this tower offers one of the most beautiful panoramas of the city !
After this visit, you will find not far from there the magnificent and imposing Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul cathedral. Of a flamboyant Gothic style, this cathedral whose first stone was laid in 1434 has vaults higher than those of Notre-Dame-de-Paris, culminating at 37.5 meters high. After having admired the splendour of its interior and its organ, head towards the right cross where is, in its sanctuary, the tomb of Marguerite de Foix and François II, last Duke of Brittany and father of Anne of Brittany. Then enter under the choir, in the 11th century Romanesque crypt, then in the 19th century crypt. If the second hosts an exhibition on the history of the building, the first would house the cathedral's treasure.
