20 kilometres west of Cahors and the Causses du Quercy Regional Nature Park, Albas is located on the left bank of the Lot. Away from the crowds and big cities, this is the perfect place for cultural and gourmet stays.

Perched on its rocky spur overlooking the Lot, the castrum of Albas is an ancient episcopal village. Between river and vineyards, this former fortified town on a cliffside was once a strategic place to watch over the Lot, especially from the heights of its former castle. Proudly built above the city, it was a witness to the power of the Lord Bishop of Cahors: with its high doors, beautiful cloverleaf windows and breathtaking views of the surroundings of Albas, it is one of its most important sites. Today, it is the beating heart of the historic city, which has been built around the building over the centuries. Dominating the village, the Saint-Étienne church impresses by its Romanesque style and is also worth a visit, as is the magnificent Château du Port (neoclassical), the Romanesque Saint-Martin church, or the Château de la Blainie. Take the time to stroll around the beautiful old houses, most of them medieval, which give a special touch to the historic heart of Albas. We also recommend that you climb up towards Sauzet from the centre of the village, to get to the orientation table overlooking the Lot: from this place, you can enjoy an amazing panoramic view of the sinuosities of the river below. By day, by night, at sunrise and sunset, the show is really worth the trip.

During this exotic and, certainly, relaxing stay, beautiful walks will be on the agenda. After a tour of the historic capital of Albas, head for the bridge over the Lot, which offers a breathtaking view of the city and the river from its arch. The river, in fact, is also a privileged playground for anyone who wants to walk in the coolness of the river. Upstream of the Luzech dam and downstream of the Albas dam, river navigation enthusiasts will be able to enjoy themselves while strolling in a gabarre, boat, pedal boat, or on canoe or kayak excursions to Cahors, Puy-l'Évêque, Saint-Cirq-Lapopie or Villeneuve-sur-Lot.

Finally, a stay in the Lot would not be perfect without an introduction to the flavours of local cuisine. You can't resist the delights of the Quercynois pastis crunch (a pastry), the scent of Rocamadour, Quercy walnuts, black truffles, saffron, Aligot, Quercy farm lamb, Estofinado, Cahors wines, foie gras, melon or mique.
