Clinging to its cliff in the heart of the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park, Rocamadour is a historic city prized for its religious city and its many listed buildings. Cultural, elegant and natural, it is the destination of choice for discovery holidays.

Established in the Dordogne Valley, the breathtaking Sacred City of Rocamadour, perched on its rocky spur, is a major place of pilgrimage. Imposing, it impresses with its massive monuments and beautiful streets marked by the seal of the Middle Ages. Overlooking the Alzou Canyon, Rocamadour is worth it! You will need good walking shoes to visit it: here, it climbs! Its sanctuaries are really worth a visit: located at the very top of the steps of the Grand Escalier des Pèlerins (well known for its 216 high steps), these semi-troglodytic sanctuaries contain most of Rocamadour's major religious treasures. The Saint-Sauveur Basilica, the Saint-Amadour crypt, the Maison de Marie, the Saint-Louis and Saint-Michel chapels, the Abbey Palace, the castle, or the famous Notre-Dame chapel are emblematic of the city, and most are classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is the latter that is among the most visited sites, thanks to the legendary Black Madonna that it shelters within it. The Durandal sword planted in the rock of Rocamadour, the Saint-Martial Gate, the Place des Senhals, the rue de la Couronnerie, the Way of the Cross, the Book of Miracles or the Museum of Sacred Art complete your "to-do-list" in Rocamadour. Also take the time to stroll along the medieval streets of the city, to discover its fortified gates, its Renaissance Town Hall, and its warm atmosphere. For a beautiful view, nothing beats a walk to the top of the medieval village: from the cross-adorned ramparts of the old fort, you can enjoy an absolutely magnificent view of Rocamadour and its canyon. Another visit to make, that of the Grotto of Wonders: lined with many cave paintings dating back more than 25,000 years, this prehistoric cave is one of Rocamadour's jewels.

But Rocamadour is also a small paradise of epicureanism: here, gourmands will have a great time discovering local dishes. AOC Rocamadour is obviously one of the jewels in the crown of regional cuisine: this goat cheese can be enjoyed plain, on bread, with a little honey but also as a gratin, pie or in salads. Accompanied by a glass of red Amadour, this is the ideal combo! The Amadour rosé, foie gras, Quercynoise salad, walnut cake and Quercy lamb round out the list of delicacies to succumb to on this trip to the Amadourian land.

Finally, staying in Amadour also means opening the doors of a vast and wonderful space dotted here and there with nature's jewels. On foot or by bike, the Padirac Chasm, the castles of the Dordogne, the Forêt des Singes, Cahors and its Valentré Bridge, Saint-Cirq-Lapopie and Gramat are worth a visit. As for activities, you will inevitably find what you are looking for: accrobranche, hot air balloon rides, hiking on the Santiago de Compostela trails, canyoning, kayaking, canoeing, trekking... All these are perfect activities to discover the smallest secrets of this characterful destination!
