Ah, Normandy... Its calm, its heritage, its beaches, it makes you want to? Pack your bags, direction Denneville!
Just opposite the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, the small town of Denneville is located on the Côte des Isles, in the department of Manche. A Normandy town with less than 600 inhabitants, this coastal destination became a seaside resort at the very beginning of the 20th century with the development of sea bathing. Divided in two, with Denneville-Bourg, which revolves around its church and its town hall, and Denneville-Plage on the sea side, Denneville is the art of quiet holidays. There are few tourists here, and that's why we like to go to this side of the Normandy region so much. On the town side, you can walk or bike around the houses marked by the typical architecture of the region with its beautiful grey stones. The 16th century castle of Omonville-la-Folliot is particularly worth the detour; flanked by high towers and turrets, and recognizable by its beautiful Louis XIII façade, it is surrounded by a moat in which three 16th century cannons have been found. Housed in a large green area, this castle decorated with magnificent carved pieces, fireplaces and tapestries is worth a look both for its setting and for the bucolic parenthesis it offers to its visitors. The Château du Breuil, a splendid 18th century building (now abandoned) is also worth a visit, as is the 15th century Saint-Rémy church, known for its stone vault decorated with Renaissance paintings and representations of the Last Supper. Fortified farms, fishermen's houses, old manor houses and mills that dot the surrounding countryside will complete your discovery of the town's built heritage.
Here, there are many hiking trails that you will find, perfect for discovering the riches of the Normandy coast. The paths from Saint-Michel towards Lessay and its famous abbey church, and those towards Portbail or Cherbourg (50 kilometres away) for the more enduring will delight walking fans and mountain bike aficionados alike. On foot, on horseback or by bike, then take the direction of the seaside to enjoy the great beach of Denneville. Perfect for kite flying, sand yachting, windsurfing, but also catamaran, fishing, walking, sea kayaking, surfing, or even swimming and sandcastle competitions! In addition, many activities are organized during the summer season, enough to satisfy the whole family during this stay in Denneville!
