Looking for a change of scenery? A quiet holiday in the middle of nature? Head for Sourdeval, just a stone's throw from Mont-Saint-Michel!
In the Manche department, in Normandy, Sourdeval is a small, quiet town located on the border with Calvados. About 50 minutes from Mont-Saint-Michel, and 15 minutes from Vire, Sourdeval spreads over more than 50 kilometres in the heart of a landscape made of hedged farmland where it is good to walk or cycle. Its vast expanse is crossed by the meandering coastal river Sée, which will lead you along its banks towards its mouth which flows into the sea at Mont-Saint-Michel.
A small Eden for lovers of green tourism, Sourdeval is a wonderful detour for those who love charming heritage. Also, take the time to visit the village to discover the full extent of its heritage. To see? The 19th century church of Saint-Martin (located in Place Charles de Gaulle), which houses a superb 16th century wooden statue, but also the church and the fountain-washhouse of Saint-Germain, the crosses, oratories and wells that make up most of the religious heritage of the village. As for the civil heritage, you will discover a whole bunch of traditional farms, houses of workers in the textile industry, but also the house known as Madame Halot, dating from the 18th century, known for its interior shutters and its cellar which was used as a hiding place for priests during the Revolution.
As for activities, the town has a tennis court, as well as many thematic hiking trails, aimed at discovering the richness of the biodiversity of the Sée valley in a playful way. A trail will make you discover the mills of the village, while others will be more focused on the fauna and flora. On the mountain bike side, there are 16 routes, that is to say more than 249 kilometers of itineraries through Sourdeval and its neighboring valleys that await the bike lovers! The visit of the ecomuseum of the Mill of the Sée (which will allow you to discover the secrets of the manufacture of forks and spoons that were once manufactured in the factory Guy Degrenne Sourdeval), that of the fireplace of the garden of Europe, but also the villages of Brouains, Vengeons, the belvedere of Chaulieu, the site of the peat bog of the Lande Mouton, the pond of Tessardière or even a small stroll on the side of the legendary Mont-Saint-Michel will complete this stay in Norman land.
