It is on the edge of the Saône that the town of Anse is located. Cultural, green and gourmet, this land of escape is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday.

At the gateway to southern Beaujolais, not far from Lyon and Villefranche-sur-Saône, Anse stands out for the beauty of its heritage. As one of the few cities in France to have preserved its Gallo-Roman enclosure, this historic destination has its origins in the Middle Ages. During your stay, take the time to stroll around its ochre stone houses to discover its old defensive towers, such as the Château des Tours (13th century). With its imposing cylindrical keep, towers and large courtyard, this former castle of the archbishops of Lyon is one of the oldest monuments in Anse. Stroll inside the Gallo-Roman castrum to discover the medieval enclosure, the Place de la Panneterie, the high bell tower of the church, the old bread oven, the 15th century residences in the Grande Rue and the Saint-Cyprien chapel. The latter is really worth a visit: built during the 5th century, it is the very first Catholic monument of the city of Anse, built in the heart of the city's ancient ramparts. Today, it is a well-known and rather popular place for exhibitions and cultural events during the summer months.

As for hiking, Beaujolais des Pierres Dorées is famous for its 1200 kilometres of marked trails totally dedicated to hiking. From the massifs of the Monts d'Or to the Battery of Carrières, passing by Reyrieux, Quincieux, Morancé and the valleys covered with huge fields of vines, you can contemplate some of the most beautiful panoramas of the area.

Also take the Tourist Railway: 2.5 kilometres long, it connects the Pont d'Azergues to the Colombier lake in about twenty minutes. This lake is one of Anse's major assets: spread over more than 60 hectares in the heart of a natural area with trees and greenery, this lake is the ideal place for hot summer days. You can hike through its woods on several itineraries or opt for a few swimming breaks. The lake also has several beaches, perfect for relaxing in the sun. You will also find beach volleyball courts, a dance hall, picnic areas, quad and motorcycle trails, a laser-game, a human foosball table... in short, you can practice a wide range of activities according to your desires. Golf aficionados? See you at the Golf du Beaujolais! In the heart of the vineyards, it offers very beautiful views over the valleys and villages surrounding Anse.

Finally, how can you stay in the heart of Beaujolais without succumbing to the delights of its gourmet flavours? Known throughout the world for its remarkable wines, the region has a total of 12 different AOCs such as Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages. Particularly appreciated by amateurs, they are a perfect accompaniment to Beaujolais sausages, roosters in wine, andouillettes and quenelles. Lyon salad, sapper apron, boar terrine with Beaujolais Nouveau, brioched sausage, Canut brains (it's a cheese, don't worry), or bugnes and eggs with snow and pralines... That's what many gourmets are looking for!
